On top of that, I've had a job at Kidzcare, helping out at numerous afterschool clubs around Edinburgh before moving into tutoring full-time.I have previously tutored in English, History, Modern Studies and Politics, taking multiple children from failing prelims to passing their final exams. While I don't have any formal teacher training, my experience...

Bringing History to Life
I have a strong, passionate and extensive interest in History. I believe that rather than it be a stodgy subject full of dates and events, it’s actually a living thing as it’s about people, how they thought what they thought and why they thought it and how all that impacts us today. My specialist interest lies in 19th and 20th Century History particularly the First World War - I visit the battlefields of France and Belgium at least twice a year. It's something I think anyone should undertake at least just once to try and appreciate the magnitude of what took place there - it's a moving experience. I a...

Rory F
Rory is tutoring my son for his A level History and has been superb in his support from the get go. Rory has helped him understand the essay writing structure and technique distinctions between GCSE and A level. Rory's lessons are well planned and his advice and guidance tailored to detailed understanding of topic content and maximising the knowledge gleaned to various exam questions e.g. the difference between just describing and actual argument / evidence evaluation. Rory is very approachable and provides feedback to parents on how well lessons have progressed and, importantly, where the biggest opportunities are for the student ahead of their set homework. I would strongly recommend Rory as a tutor.

My child's school in Carlisle focuses on vocational subjects. Can a tutor ensure their History skills are strong enough for university applications?
Absolutely. This is a common concern, and we can definitely help. An online tutor can provide focused, in-depth History coaching that complements their schoolwork, building the critical analysis and essay-writing skills that Russell Group universities in particular look for. It ensures they are not at a disadvantage and can compete for places on top humanities courses.
Can a tutor help my child connect their studies to local Cumbrian history?
Yes, many of our tutors are brilliant at making history relevant. Whilst they aren't based in Carlisle, they can certainly incorporate local examples like Hadrian's Wall, the Border Reivers, or Carlisle's industrial heritage into lessons to make topics more tangible and exciting for your child.
Is online tutoring really as effective as having someone visit our home?
We find it's even more effective for many families. Online tutoring gives your child in Carlisle access to a much wider pool of specialist History tutors from across the UK. Plus, with features like interactive whiteboards and resource sharing, lessons are just as engaging, without the travel time and with much more flexibility.
What happens if my child doesn't click with their first History tutor?
Finding the right personality fit is so important, and we understand that. If the first session isn't quite right, just email our support team at support@tutorful.co.uk and we will cover the cost of your first lesson with a new tutor. We're here to help you find the perfect match.
How do I find the right History tutor for my child in Carlisle?
It's straightforward. You can use our search filters to find tutors who specialise in your child's specific level (e.g., GCSE, A-Level) and exam board. You can also watch introductory videos, read reviews from other parents, and message tutors directly to discuss your child's needs before booking.
What qualifications do your History tutors have?
We have a very selective process, accepting only 1 in 8 tutors who apply. Many of our History tutors are subject-specialist teachers, examiners, or graduates from top UK universities. Each tutor's qualifications are clearly listed on their profile for you to review.
How much do online History lessons cost?
The cost varies depending on the tutor's experience and qualifications. Prices are displayed clearly on each tutor's profile, so you can find an excellent tutor who fits your budget. There are no hidden fees or long-term contracts.
Can a tutor help with specific exam boards like AQA or Edexcel?
Yes. Our tutors have experience with all major UK exam boards, including AQA, Edexcel, OCR, and WJEC. You can filter your search to find a tutor with specific expertise in the curriculum and assessment style your child is following.
How often should my child have a lesson?
Most students have one hour-long lesson per week, as this provides consistency and momentum. However, the schedule is completely flexible. You can arrange sessions more or less frequently depending on your child's goals, whether it's ongoing support or intensive exam preparation.
Do you offer tutoring for A-Level History as well as GCSE?
We do. We have a huge range of tutors who specialise in teaching History at all levels, from KS3 right through to GCSE and A-Level. Many also provide support for university-level studies and beyond.
My child is also interested in Politics. Do you offer tutors for related subjects?
Yes, absolutely. We offer tutoring in a wide range of subjects beyond the core curriculum, including Politics, Sociology, Law, and Economics. Many students find that studying related subjects helps deepen their understanding across the board.
How much do online History lessons cost?
Your tutor will provide regular feedback on your child's progress, highlighting areas of strength and identifying topics to focus on next. You can also communicate with your tutor at any time through our platform to discuss how things are going.
