Bringing History to Life
I have a strong, passionate and extensive interest in History. I believe that rather than it be a stodgy subject full of dates and events, it’s actually a living thing as it’s about people, how they thought what they thought and why they thought it and how all that impacts us today. My specialist interest lies in 19th and 20th Century History particularly the First World War - I visit the battlefields of France and Belgium at least twice a year. It's something I think anyone should undertake at least just once to try and appreciate the magnitude of what took place there - it's a moving experience. I a...

Rory F
Rory is tutoring my son for his A level History and has been superb in his support from the get go. Rory has helped him understand the essay writing structure and technique distinctions between GCSE and A level. Rory's lessons are well planned and his advice and guidance tailored to detailed understanding of topic content and maximising the knowledge gleaned to various exam questions e.g. the difference between just describing and actual argument / evidence evaluation. Rory is very approachable and provides feedback to parents on how well lessons have progressed and, importantly, where the biggest opportunities are for the student ahead of their set homework. I would strongly recommend Rory as a tutor.

Brilliant History tutors who you’ll really click with.
Our experienced tutors take the time to understand where each student needs to focus and their preferred way of learning. They make a measurable difference – 90% of all students improve by at least one grade.
Can a tutor help my child with the History demands of schools like RGS or Newcastle High?
Absolutely. Many of our History tutors are experienced in helping students meet the high academic standards of selective schools. They can focus on developing the critical thinking and sophisticated essay-writing skills required, ensuring your child feels prepared and confident in a competitive environment.
My child hopes to study History at a top university like Durham. Can a tutor support this?
Yes, this is a perfect goal for our tutors. They can provide in-depth A-Level support to help your child achieve the necessary grades, as well as offer guidance on personal statements and developing the kind of historical arguments that impress university admissions teams.
Is online History tutoring as effective as finding someone in person in Newcastle?
We believe it’s even more effective. Online tutoring gives your child access to the best History specialists from across the UK, not just who is available locally. With features like interactive whiteboards and session recordings, it offers a flexible and powerful learning experience from the comfort of your home.
Can a tutor help my child use local examples from the North East in their History essays?
That's a fantastic way to make an essay stand out. Whilst our tutors are UK-wide, many are skilled at guiding students to incorporate relevant local history, from the region's industrial heritage to its Roman past, to strengthen their arguments and demonstrate deeper understanding.
What happens if my child doesn't click with their first History tutor?
We know that the right fit is crucial. If the first session isn't quite right, just email our support team at support@tutorful.co.uk. We will cover the cost of your first lesson with a new tutor to ensure you find the perfect match.
How do you ensure your History tutors are high quality?
We're very selective. Every tutor is background-checked, interviewed, and has their credentials verified by our team. We only accept 1 in 8 tutors who apply, so you can be sure you're connecting with a genuine expert in their field.
Can we get a tutor who specialises in a specific part of the History curriculum?
Yes. Our tutors cover a huge range of topics. You can use our search filters to find specialists in anything from Medieval Britain and the Tudors to Modern American History or the Cold War, ensuring your child gets expert help in the specific area they're studying.
How much do online History lessons cost for a student in Newcastle?
Our tutors set their own rates, with prices starting from £15 per hour. You can see each tutor's price on their profile, allowing you to find an experienced, high-quality tutor that fits your family's budget.
How long are the tutoring sessions?
The standard session length is one hour, which we find is perfect for maintaining focus and making real progress. However, you can discuss different session lengths directly with your chosen tutor to find what works best for your child.
Do you offer tutoring for other subjects besides History?
We do! We have expert tutors across more than 300 subjects, from other humanities like Politics and English, to Maths, Sciences, languages, and even practical skills like coding or music. We're here to support all of your child's learning goals.
What technology does my child need for online lessons?
It's very simple. All your child needs is a laptop or computer with a webcam, a microphone, and a stable internet connection. Our custom-built online classroom runs directly in your web browser, so there's no special software to download.
Can we get a tutor who specialises in a specific part of the History curriculum?
You can start looking right away. Many of our tutors respond in under an hour, and you could have your first lesson booked within 24 hours. Our platform makes it easy to find and connect with the right person quickly.
