Rory F
Rory is tutoring my son for his A level History and has been superb in his support from the get go. Rory has helped him understand the essay writing structure and technique distinctions between GCSE and A level. Rory's lessons are well planned and his advice and guidance tailored to detailed understanding of topic content and maximising the knowledge gleaned to various exam questions e.g. the difference between just describing and actual argument / evidence evaluation. Rory is very approachable and provides feedback to parents on how well lessons have progressed and, importantly, where the biggest opportunities are for the student ahead of their set homework. I would strongly recommend Rory as a tutor.

Brilliant History tutors who you’ll really click with.
Our experienced tutors take the time to understand where each student needs to focus and their preferred way of learning. They make a measurable difference – 90% of all students improve by at least one grade.
My child is aiming for a competitive university like Keele. Can a History tutor help with this?
Absolutely. Many of our History tutors are experienced in preparing students for top university applications. They can help your child develop the critical thinking, essay writing, and analytical skills that admissions tutors look for, going beyond the curriculum to build a truly impressive depth of knowledge.
Our school in Newcastle-under-Lyme seems to focus more on STEM. How can a tutor help my child excel in History?
We hear this a lot. A dedicated online tutor provides the focused, one-to-one attention that can be difficult to get in a busy classroom. They can reignite your child's passion for the subject and ensure they build the strong foundational skills needed to achieve top grades, ensuring their talents in the humanities don't get overlooked.
Is online tutoring as effective as in-person for a subject like History?
Yes, and in many ways, it's better. Our online classroom has interactive whiteboards perfect for analysing sources, planning essays, and sharing resources. Plus, your child can learn from the comfort of home in Newcastle-under-Lyme, with access to a wider choice of top specialist tutors from across the UK, not just whoever is local.
How do you vet your History tutors?
We're very selective. Only 1 in 8 applicants make it onto Tutorful. Every tutor is background-checked, interviewed by a member of our team, and has their qualifications verified. We choose knowledgeable and passionate educators who are brilliant at inspiring young people.
What happens if we don't get on with the first tutor we try?
Finding the right fit is the most important thing. We have a first lesson guarantee, so if it doesn't feel like a perfect match, just email our support team at support@tutorful.co.uk and we will cover the cost of your first session with a new tutor.
How much do online History lessons cost?
Our tutors set their own rates, typically starting from £15 an hour. You can browse profiles and filter by price to find a brilliant, experienced tutor who fits your budget. There are no hidden fees or long-term contracts.
My child's schedule is already packed. How flexible is online tutoring?
Very. That's one of the main benefits for busy families. You can arrange sessions for evenings, weekends, or during school holidays – whatever works best for you. You agree on times directly with your tutor, making it easy to fit around other commitments.
What equipment does my child need for their online sessions?
It's simple. All they need is a laptop or computer, a stable internet connection, and a microphone. A webcam is also helpful for building a good rapport with their tutor. Our online classroom is browser-based, so there's no complex software to install.
Do you offer tutoring for specific History topics, like GCSE modules?
Yes. Our tutors cover a vast range of curricula and topics, including GCSE modules (e.g., Cold War, Norman Conquest) and A-Level coursework. You can check tutors' profiles for their specialisms or message them to ask about specific areas of study.
How will I know if my child is making progress?
Your tutor will provide regular feedback on your child's development. You can message them at any time to discuss progress, and you'll see it for yourself in your child's growing confidence, their improved schoolwork, and how they talk about the subject.
My child is interested in Politics too. Do you offer tutoring in related subjects?
We do! We have expert tutors across more than 300 subjects, including Politics, Law, Sociology, and Economics. Many students find that exploring related subjects deepens their understanding and helps them discover new interests and potential career paths.
My child's schedule is already packed. How flexible is online tutoring?
Definitely. This is one of the most common areas students need support with. A great History tutor can break down how to structure an argument, analyse evidence effectively, and write with clarity and confidence – skills that are vital across all their subjects.
