My family and I have now returned to the UKafter more than 12 years of living and working in Paris. In fact, both my children were born in Paris. I am keen to maintain their level in French so regularly tutor...

Genevieve M
Genevieve is a fantastic tutor. She is extremely engaging to learn from, explaining everything very patiently and clearly, and she has a really good sense of humour. I’m particularly impressed by the effort she puts in to prepare extra learning materials for me between classes based on the specifics of what I struggled with in the previous lesson. I really didn’t expect that level of additional work from her, it’s so thoughtful and helpful. I intend to be learning French up to conversational fluency so I need many, many hours of teaching, and I am therefore very glad I chose Genevieve to deliver them as she makes the time fly by.

My child is aiming for Torquay Girls' Grammar School. Can we find a tutor experienced with grammar school expectations?
Absolutely. Many of our tutors have experience helping students meet the high academic standards of selective schools. You can view each tutor's profile to see their background and experience, and even message them before booking to discuss your child's specific goals.
We're hoping for a place at a Russell Group university like Exeter. Can a French tutor help with that?
Yes, they can. A strong A-Level in a language like French can be a real asset on a UCAS application. Our tutors can help your child secure the GCSE and A-Level grades they need, and also build the independent study skills that are so important for university-level learning.
What if my child doesn't click with their first tutor?
We know that the right fit is crucial for learning. That's why we have our First Lesson Guarantee. If for any reason you don't get on with your first tutor, simply email our support team at support@tutorful.co.uk and we will cover your first session with a new tutor.
Do you only offer academic subjects, or could my child learn something else?
While we're here to help with core subjects like French, Maths, and English, we believe in learning for life! We have expert tutors who can teach a huge range of skills, from learning to play the guitar or piano to coding in Python.
How do I choose the best French tutor for my child?
You can start by looking through our tutor profiles, where you can see their experience, qualifications, and reviews from other parents. We recommend watching their short intro videos and messaging a few to find the perfect personality match for your child.
How much do online French tutors in Torquay cost?
Our tutors set their own hourly rates based on their experience, so you can find someone to suit your budget. Prices are clearly displayed on each tutor's profile, and you can use our search filters to find a great tutor in your price range.
How does online tutoring actually work?
It's simple! All lessons take place in our purpose-built online classroom. It has video chat, an interactive whiteboard, and a space to share documents. It's a secure and effective way for your child to learn from the comfort of your home.
How can a tutor help my child build confidence in French?
Confidence is key. In a one-to-one setting, your child has a safe space to ask questions without feeling embarrassed. Tutors can break down difficult topics, celebrate small wins, and tailor lessons to your child's interests, which makes learning feel much more positive and achievable.
Are the tutors background-checked?
Yes, your child's safety is our top priority. Every tutor on our platform has passed an enhanced DBS check and been personally vetted by our education team. We only accept 1 in 8 tutors who apply, so you can be sure your child is in safe hands.
How long is a typical tutoring session?
Most lessons last for one hour, but you can arrange shorter or longer sessions directly with your chosen tutor. It's all about finding what works best for your child's concentration and your family's schedule.
How often should my child have a lesson?
Many families find a weekly lesson provides the perfect consistency for progress, especially in the run-up to exams like the GCSEs. However, the frequency is completely up to you and can be easily discussed and arranged with your tutor.
