John H
Experienced English tutor
Hi, I’m John, I’m 23 and I’m currently studying law at Demontfort University. I have been tutoring now for almost two years mainly in maths from KS1 up to GCSE and have developed the knowledge and skills to be able to tailor my lessons to best suit the student as no one style will work best for everyone. For example, some students may benefit from shorter lessons, some may benefit from taking the lessons at a much slower pace, some may prefer to just dive straight into questions and many other factors that we will be able to identify together and use to customise the lesson to best suit the stude...
Megan is a wonderful tutor!
My son has really enjoyed the sessions with her and she adapts them to ensure he is fully understanding the teaching.
Megan provides an overview of feedback after to each session which allows me to understand what she has covered in the session and how to future support my son.
I cannot recommend her enough!!

Harry L
Our son has dyslexia and had taken his GCSE English several times without passing. He was demoralized with the whole process. We had 6 weeks before the next attempt and we were lucky enough to find Harry. He said that in his first lesson with him he had learnt more about exam technique than he had in all of his GCSE lessons. Today he got a grade 5 which seemed impossible before Harry's tutor sessions. Thankyou very much Harry, our family is extremely grateful for your particular teaching skills and supporting our son to success.

Sam H
I started working with Sam quite late in the A-Level year, but despite the limited time he put in so much effort and support. He completely rebuilt my confidence in English Language and helped take me from a B to an A — the first A I’d ever achieved in English, and I got it in my actual A-Levels. He had me writing answers every week and always gave incredibly thorough, clear feedback that really helped me improve quickly. I genuinely wouldn’t have achieved my grade without him and can’t recommend him enough.

Brilliant English tutors who you’ll really click with.
Our experienced tutors take the time to understand where each student needs to focus and their preferred way of learning. They make a measurable difference – 90% of all students improve by at least one grade.
Can a tutor help my child get the GCSE English grade needed for Coleg y Cymoedd?
Absolutely. Many parents in Rhondda Cynon Taf come to us with this exact goal. Our tutors are experienced in helping students secure that all-important pass grade in GCSE English, focusing on the specific areas your child needs to improve to meet the entry requirements for local colleges.
My child hopes to go to Cardiff University. Can a tutor support them with A-Level English too?
Yes, of course. We have specialist tutors for all levels, from primary school right through to university. If your child is aiming for top universities like Cardiff or the University of South Wales, an A-Level tutor can provide the in-depth subject knowledge needed to help them achieve the highest grades.
How do I choose the right English tutor for my child?
Every tutor has a detailed profile where you can see their experience, qualifications, and reviews from other parents. You can watch their introductory video to get a feel for their personality and send them a message to discuss your child's needs before booking. It's all about finding the right fit for your child.
What if my child doesn't click with their first tutor?
We know how important the right student-tutor relationship is. That's why we have our First Lesson Guarantee. If you don't get on with your tutor, email our support team at support@tutorful.co.uk and we will cover your first session with a new tutor.
How do online lessons actually work?
Our online classroom has everything your child needs for a great lesson. There's a video chat so they can see and speak to their tutor, an interactive whiteboard for working through problems together, and a way to share documents like essays or past papers.
Are all the tutors background-checked?
Yes. Your child's safety is our top priority. Every single one of our tutors has been through a rigorous selection process and has had their ID and background checked. We only accept 1 in every 8 tutors who apply, so you can be sure your child is in safe hands.
How can a tutor help my child build confidence?
Sometimes, a lack of confidence is the biggest barrier to learning. In a one-to-one setting, your child has a safe space to ask questions without feeling embarrassed. A great tutor celebrates small wins and patiently explains things until they click, which can make a huge difference to your child's self-belief.
How much does an English tutor cost?
Our tutors set their own hourly rates based on their experience and qualifications. Prices are clearly displayed on each tutor's profile, so you can find someone who fits your budget. There are no hidden fees or contracts.
How often should my child have a lesson?
Most families find that a one-hour lesson each week works best, especially when preparing for exams like GCSEs. However, it's completely flexible. You can discuss what's right for your child and your family's schedule directly with your chosen tutor.
Is tutoring just for school subjects like English and Maths?
Not at all! While we help thousands of students with academic subjects, we also have expert tutors for music, languages, and practical skills. So whether your child wants to learn the guitar, get help with coding, or even prepare for a music theory exam, we can help.
What happens in the first lesson?
The first session is usually a friendly introduction. The tutor will chat with your child to understand what they enjoy, what they find tricky, and what their goals are. It's a great chance for them to get to know each other and for the tutor to create a plan for future lessons.
How quickly can we get started?
You can get started very quickly. Simply search for a tutor, send a message to a few you like the look of, and arrange a time for your first lesson. Many tutors can offer a lesson within a few days.
