John has been working with my son for the past two months. In that time, he has shown a real passion in helping my son succeed. Apart from the scheduled lessons, John takes the time to review my son's school work to ensure he is confident and can excel at school. John also goes through optimal writing strategies during the tutor sessions that my son can transfer to what he is learning in class.
Overall, John is a great tutor and I would highly recommend!

Harry L
Our son has dyslexia and had taken his GCSE English several times without passing. He was demoralized with the whole process. We had 6 weeks before the next attempt and we were lucky enough to find Harry. He said that in his first lesson with him he had learnt more about exam technique than he had in all of his GCSE lessons. Today he got a grade 5 which seemed impossible before Harry's tutor sessions. Thankyou very much Harry, our family is extremely grateful for your particular teaching skills and supporting our son to success.

Brilliant English tutors who you’ll really click with.
Our experienced tutors take the time to understand where each student needs to focus and their preferred way of learning. They make a measurable difference – 90% of all students improve by at least one grade.
My child is preparing for the 11+ for Tiffin School. Can I find a tutor with specific experience?
Absolutely. Many of our English tutors have experience helping children prepare for the 11+ exams, including the creative writing and comprehension sections specific to competitive grammar schools. You can read tutor profiles and even message them before booking to find the perfect match for your child's goals.
We're aiming for a top sixth form in the Kingston area. How can a tutor help with my child's GCSE English grades?
Our tutors are brilliant at helping students target the grades they need. They can focus on specific areas of the GCSE English curriculum, from exam technique to understanding marking criteria. In fact, 90% of our students improve by at least one grade, and we've seen GCSE results improve by up to two grades with dedicated support.
How do I choose the right English tutor for my child?
You can watch introductory videos, read reviews from other parents, and see each tutor's experience on their profile. You can also message tutors directly to ask about their approach to teaching creative writing or GCSE exam prep before you book. It's all about finding someone your child will feel comfortable with.
What if my child doesn't click with their first tutor?
We know that the right fit is crucial for building confidence. That's why we have our First Lesson Guarantee. If you don't get on with your tutor for any reason, just email our support team at support@tutorful.co.uk and we will cover your first session with a new tutor.
How much does an English tutor cost?
Prices vary depending on the tutor's experience and qualifications. You'll find that our tutors set their own rates, starting from around £15 per hour. You can see the price clearly on each tutor's profile, so you can find an expert who fits your budget with no hidden costs.
How can online tutoring help my child build confidence?
One-to-one attention in a safe, supportive environment makes a huge difference. Your child can ask questions they might be shy about in class and work at their own pace. Seeing themselves make progress week by week is a fantastic confidence booster.
Are all the tutors background-checked?
Yes, your child's safety is our top priority. All our tutors undergo a thorough vetting process, including identity and background checks, before they can join our platform. We're very selective and only accept 1 in every 8 tutors who apply.
What happens in an online lesson?
Our online classroom has everything your child needs for a great lesson. There's an interactive whiteboard, video chat, and a space to share documents. Tutors can use these tools to make learning engaging and fun, whether they're working through past papers or analysing a poem together.
How long is a typical tutoring session?
Most sessions are one hour long, which is usually the perfect amount of time to dive into a topic without your child losing focus. However, you can discuss different session lengths with your chosen tutor to find what works best.
Is tutoring just for school subjects, or can my child learn other skills?
It's for both! While we have thousands of expert academic tutors for subjects like English, Maths and Science, we also have tutors who can help your child explore hobbies and develop new skills, like learning to play the guitar, coding in Python, or even mastering a new language.
Do I have to commit to a block of lessons?
Not at all. You have complete flexibility. You can book lessons one at a time or schedule a regular weekly slot with your tutor. It’s all about what works for you and your child.
How quickly can I find a tutor?
You can find and book a tutor very quickly. Our search filters make it easy to find tutors who are available at times that suit you. Many tutors can start within a day or two, so you can get the support your child needs right away.
