Josh L
Josh has been tutoring my son for several weeks now. When asking my son what he thought of the sessions she shared that the lessons were varied and he makes it interesting and fun, ( My Son is in year 10 - age 14) We were looking for a tutor to help my son with his English as he had a difficult year last year with his teacher and it became a dread and a stress. Having Josh tutoring him has given him more confidence in the subject. He is keen to have the lesson and always comes down afterwards and shares something good about it. He seems to be progressing well at school and I know these sessions can only be helping with that.

Grace B
My daughter worked with Grace as she wanted to re-take her English Language GCSE to improve her grade. My daughter thought Grace was a fantastic teacher. After her first lesson she said she had learnt more in an hour with her than she had in her previous two years at school! She has a lovely friendly manner and put my daughter at ease straight away. She also puts a lot into the lessons through preparation, marking and generally guiding the learning where it's needed most. As an examiner herself she also has a clear understanding of what students need to work on to succeed. Couldn't recommend her highly enough and whether or not my daughter does improve her grade, I know that the lessons were worthwhile. Thank you Grace!

John M
John has been nothing short of a miracle worker with our Year 9 son. In a matter of a few lessons his confidence in English has really grown. He was previously really disengaged with English & it was a real effort to get him to spend any amount of time on it. Now with John’s encouragement, he actually shows me his English homework & wants to improve, work at it. Highly recommend

Brilliant English tutors who you’ll really click with.
Our experienced tutors take the time to understand where each student needs to focus and their preferred way of learning. They make a measurable difference – 90% of all students improve by at least one grade.
My child is preparing for the 11+ for Heckmondwike Grammar School. Can a tutor help with this?
Absolutely. Many of our English tutors specialise in 11+ preparation. They can create a tailored plan for your child focusing on the key areas of the exam, such as verbal reasoning, reading comprehension, vocabulary building, and exam technique, to help them feel confident and fully prepared.
Are your tutors familiar with the specific requirements for schools in the Kirklees area?
While our tutors are based across the UK, many have extensive experience with specific entrance exams like the 11+. You can use our filters to find tutors who mention 11+ or grammar school entrance prep in their profiles and ask them directly about their experience in your first message.
How do I choose the right English tutor for my child?
It’s really important to find someone your child connects with. You can watch introductory videos, read reviews from other parents, and compare qualifications on each tutor's profile. Sending a message to a few tutors first is a great way to get a feel for their approach before booking a lesson.
What happens if we don't get on with our first choice of tutor?
We want to make sure you find the perfect match. That's why we have our First Lesson Guarantee. If you don't get on with your tutor, email our support team at support@tutorful.co.uk and we will cover your first session with a new tutor.
How much do online English tutors cost?
Our tutors set their own hourly rates, so prices vary depending on their experience. You can easily filter tutors by price to find an expert who fits your budget. There are no hidden fees or contracts to worry about.
How can a tutor help my child build confidence?
Sometimes, a lack of confidence is the biggest hurdle. One-to-one tutoring provides a safe, encouraging space where your child can ask questions without feeling embarrassed. Celebrating small wins and overcoming challenges with a supportive mentor can make a huge difference to their self-belief.
Are the tutors safe and background-checked?
Yes, your child's safety is our top priority. Every single one of our tutors has passed a background check. We are very selective, and only 1 in every 8 tutors who apply is accepted onto our platform, so you can be sure your child is in safe, expert hands.
What happens in a typical online lesson?
Lessons take place in our specially designed online classroom. It includes an interactive whiteboard, video chat, and file sharing, allowing your child and their tutor to work through problems, analyse texts, and share resources just as they would in person. It’s simple, effective, and engaging.
How long are the lessons and how often should we have them?
Lessons are typically one hour long, but this is flexible. Most parents find that one session a week works well, but you can arrange whatever frequency fits your child's needs and your family's schedule. You can discuss the best approach directly with your chosen tutor.
What if my child just needs help with a specific topic, like poetry analysis?
That's no problem at all. The great thing about one-to-one tutoring is that it's completely flexible. You can book a few sessions to focus on a specific area your child finds tricky or to prepare for a particular test, rather than committing to long-term lessons.
Is this just for school subjects, or can my child learn skills like coding or guitar?
We offer tutoring in over 300 subjects! Beyond core academic subjects, your child can learn practical skills like coding in Python, learn to play a musical instrument like the guitar, or even study a new language. It's a great way to support their hobbies and passions too.
How quickly can we get started with a tutor?
You can get started very quickly. Simply search for your subject, find a tutor you like, and send them a message to arrange your first lesson. Many of our 200,000+ happy students have found and booked their perfect tutor in just a few clicks.
