I'm a postgraduate in International Law and Politics, I have considerable understanding producing structured answers to questi ons within the social sciences field, including assessing sources, research and creating experiments. I'm an experienced tutor in English, having taken over 30 students through to GCSE (AQA), with all reaching the 2-grade minimum increase from their original grade average. Whilst I don't promise this, this is always my end goal. I aim to provide a place for inquisitiveness and contextual awareness: the point is to offer my students a place to ask questions, there's no time...

Mamun A
My son is really improving since starting lessons with Mamun. From the start of the lesson getting almost all questions wrong to by the end completely understanding it all. Tested him a few days later and he got almost every question right without any help at all he remembered all the punctuation in all questions, shocked how much he's improved from just one lesson on it! Mamun's teaching is brilliant and it really seems to stick in my sons head. Also my son is very fussy with his ASD/ADHD and is often open about his feelings towards people, especially new people most often than not he will say he doesn't like this person because of this or that, but he said he likes his tutor and wants to do more lessons which is brilliant. Mamun is always on time, very patient and explains thoroughly, he gives brilliant feedback afterwards too. Highly recommend this tutor and I'm glad I chose him rather than someone else.

My child is aiming for a competitive sixth form near Camberwell. Can a tutor help them get the English grade they need?
Absolutely. Many parents in your position use Tutorful to help their child secure the grades needed for top sixth forms. Our tutors can focus specifically on the essay-writing and analytical skills required to turn a grade 5 or 6 into the 7 or above that these institutions often look for in English.
We're hoping for a top London university. How can an English tutor help with that A-Level journey?
A-Level English requires a big step up in critical thinking. A tutor can provide invaluable one-to-one support, helping your child to develop the sophisticated arguments and detailed analysis that universities like King's College or LSE expect from their applicants. They can guide them through complex texts and help them prepare for the rigours of undergraduate study.
How do I choose the right English tutor for my child?
You can watch introductory videos, read reviews from other parents, and message tutors directly to ask about their experience. We recommend finding someone your child will connect with, who has a proven track record in the specific area you need help with, whether that's GCSE Language or A-Level Literature.
What if my child doesn't click with their first English tutor?
We know that the right fit is essential for learning. That's why we have our First Lesson Guarantee. If you don't get on with your tutor, email our support team at support@tutorful.co.uk and we will cover your first session with a new tutor.
How do online lessons actually work?
It's simple! All lessons take place in our purpose-built online classroom. It includes a video chat, an interactive whiteboard, and the ability to share documents and past papers. All your child needs is a laptop or computer with a webcam, a microphone, and a stable internet connection.
How much does an online English tutor cost?
Our tutors set their own rates, so prices vary depending on their experience and level of expertise. You can easily filter tutors by price on our website to find an expert who fits your family's budget.
Are the tutors on your platform background-checked?
Yes, your child's safety is our top priority. Every tutor is ID-checked and has an up-to-date DBS background check. We are also very selective, accepting only 1 in 8 tutors who apply, so you can be confident your child is learning from a trusted professional.
How can a tutor help my child with their confidence?
Sometimes, a lack of confidence is the biggest barrier to progress. In a one-to-one setting, your child has a safe space to ask questions they might be too shy to ask in class. A great tutor celebrates small wins and builds their self-belief, which often has a positive impact on their grades.
Do you only offer academic subjects, or can my child learn something else?
While we have thousands of expert academic tutors, we also offer support in a huge range of other areas. Whether your child wants to learn to play the guitar, get into coding, or develop their creative writing skills, you can find a brilliant tutor for them on Tutorful.
Can a tutor help with specific GCSE texts, like the poetry anthology?
Yes, definitely. Our tutors are experts in the current curriculum. They can provide targeted help with any specific text your child is studying, whether it's 'An Inspector Calls', the poetry anthology, or 'Macbeth', helping them to understand key themes and analyse quotes effectively.
How often should my child have a lesson?
Most families find that one lesson a week is the perfect amount to build momentum and see real progress without overwhelming their child. However, the schedule is completely flexible and you can arrange sessions with your tutor as often as you feel is necessary.
How long is a typical online tutoring session?
The standard lesson length is one hour. This gives enough time to dive into a topic properly without your child losing focus. You can, however, arrange longer or shorter sessions with your tutor if you feel that would be more beneficial.
