Charlotte S
Friendly English Literature Tutor
With over 10 years of teaching experience and 5 years of online tutoring, I’ve supported children from Reception to Year 6, helping them grow in confidence and enjoy learning. I use a student-centred, supportive teaching style, tailoring every lesson to each child’s needs, strengths and pace. No two learners are the same — and I love adapting my approach to make learning meaningful and engaging. One of the biggest reasons I love tutoring is the individual attention it allows. I get to slow down, focus entirely on one child, and celebrate every bit of progress with them. Seeing a concept “click” or watchi...

Lucy W
Patient and experienced English Literature teacher
Having spent the past five years teaching English in secondary schools, I am a highly qualified and experienced teacher. The majority of my teaching experience has been in leading grammar schools making me an excellent tutor for anyone looking to achieve grade 7+ (GCSE) or A/A* (A Level). However, I also have experience working with lower attaining students and have spent time working on a 1:1 basis with a highly dyslexic student who managed to achieve a grade 7 in his English Language re-sit which is what was tutoring him for.I hold a masters from a Russell Group university in Creative Writing...
I was dubious that I would see any benefit or engagement in my son when it came to English but John has managed to reach him in a way that is accessible and enjoyable. My son attends on time, each week and appears to b positively engaged which is a breath of fresh air based on the challenges we have had with him through his whole school career.
I'm looking forward to seeing his continued growth

Alex R
This was a general chat with Alex regarding our requurements. Went very well and we have decided to use Alex going forward. Only issue is that Alex wasn't able to add the session as a chat and so we have been charged - possibly an issue with the app which I am sure we can get resolved

Brilliant English Literature tutors who you’ll really click with.
Our experienced tutors take the time to understand where each student needs to focus and their preferred way of learning. They make a measurable difference – 90% of all students improve by at least one grade.
My child is at Grove Academy and finds Higher English Literature tough. Can a tutor help?
Absolutely. That's exactly where our tutors excel. They are experienced in the specifics of the Scottish curriculum and can provide targeted support for the demands of the Higher English exam, from textual analysis of Scottish set texts to crafting high-scoring critical essays.
We're aiming for a competitive humanities course at St Andrews. Can a tutor really make a difference?
Yes. A strong grade is vital, but so is the ability to think critically. Our tutors help your child develop the sophisticated analytical and argumentative skills that admissions tutors at universities like St Andrews and Dundee look for. They'll go beyond the curriculum to foster a genuine, deep understanding of literature.
Is online tutoring as effective as in-person for a subject like English Literature?
We find it's even more effective for many students. Online sessions use interactive tools like digital whiteboards to analyse texts together in real-time. Plus, the access it gives students in Dundee to a UK-wide pool of subject specialists is a huge advantage you don't get when limited to local-only options.
How do you ensure your tutors are high quality?
We're incredibly selective. Only 1 in 8 tutors who apply make it onto Tutorful. Every tutor is interviewed by a real person, has their qualifications checked, and undergoes a background check. We choose passionate, knowledgeable educators who are brilliant at what they do.
What happens if my child doesn't click with their first tutor?
Finding the right personality match is key. That's why we have a first lesson guarantee. If you don't feel the first tutor is the perfect fit, just email our support team at support@tutorful.co.uk and we will cover the cost of your first session with a new tutor.
My daughter loves creative writing, not just analysing texts. Can you help with that?
Of course. Many of our English tutors are passionate writers themselves and would be delighted to nurture your daughter's creative talents, whether she's working on short stories, poetry, or just wants to improve her descriptive writing skills.
How much do online English Literature tutors cost?
Our tutors set their own rates, so there's a wide range of prices to suit different budgets. Prices are displayed clearly on each tutor's profile, so you can find an excellent, affordable tutor for your child without any surprises.
Are the sessions flexible? Our family schedule is really busy.
Flexibility is one of the biggest benefits of online tutoring. You can schedule sessions at times that work for you and your child – whether that's after school, on weekends, or even during school holidays. No travel time means it's much easier to fit into a packed week.
What technology do we need for online lessons?
It's very simple. All you need is a laptop or computer with a webcam, a microphone, and a stable internet connection. Our custom-built online classroom has all the tools needed, like an interactive whiteboard, built right in.
Can we get help with a specific text, like a Shakespeare play?
Yes. You can use the filters on our search page to find tutors who specialise in particular areas, from Shakespeare to contemporary poetry. This ensures your child gets expert help on the exact texts they're studying in their Dundee school.
How long does it take to find a tutor?
It can be very quick. Many parents find and book the perfect tutor within 24 hours. You can browse tutor profiles, read reviews from other parents, and message tutors directly to ask questions before booking your first session.
Do you offer tutoring for other subjects besides English?
We do! We have expert online tutors across more than 300 subjects, from Maths and the Sciences to modern languages, music, and even coding. We're here to support every aspect of your child's learning.
