This was a general chat with Alex regarding our requurements. Went very well and we have decided to use Alex going forward. Only issue is that Alex wasn't able to add the session as a chat and so we have been charged - possibly an issue with the app which I am sure we can get resolved

Brilliant English Literature tutors who you’ll really click with.
Our experienced tutors take the time to understand where each student needs to focus and their preferred way of learning. They make a measurable difference – 90% of all students improve by at least one grade.
My child is aiming for a top university like Bristol or Exeter. Can a tutor help them achieve the A/A* grades in English Literature needed?
Absolutely. Many of our English Literature tutors are specialists in A-Level and have experience helping students secure top grades. They focus on the specific analytical and essay-writing skills that examiners look for, giving your child in Gloucester the tools and confidence to stand out in a competitive field.
With the high standards at Gloucester's grammar schools, how can a tutor provide something different from the classroom?
Classroom teaching is brilliant, but it can't always provide individual focus. A one-to-one online tutor can dedicate an entire session to your child's specific needs—whether that's mastering poetic devices or structuring a comparative essay. It's a completely personalised approach that complements their schoolwork perfectly.
Is online tutoring as effective as meeting a tutor in person?
We find it's even more effective for many families. Your child learns from the comfort of home in Gloucester, using our interactive whiteboard and messaging tools. Plus, online tutoring gives you access to a much wider pool of specialist tutors from across the UK, so you can find the perfect expert for A-Level English Literature, not just someone local.
What happens if we're not sure about the first tutor we try?
It's so important that your child and their tutor get on well. We have a first lesson guarantee to ensure the perfect match. If it doesn't feel right for any reason, just email our support team at support@tutorful.co.uk, and we will cover the cost of your first session with a new tutor.
My child has lost confidence in English Literature. How can a tutor help?
This is exactly where one-to-one tutoring shines. A tutor can go back to basics, fill in any gaps in understanding, and celebrate small wins. By creating a safe, encouraging environment, they help your child see that they *can* do it, which is often the biggest hurdle to overcome.
How are your tutors vetted?
We're very selective and only accept 1 in 8 tutors who apply. Every tutor is interviewed by our team, has their ID verified, and undergoes a background check. We ensure they have the subject expertise and teaching skill to help your child succeed.
Can a tutor help with the specific texts my child is studying for their A-Levels?
Yes, definitely. Our tutors have experience with a wide range of A-Level syllabuses and set texts. You can check a tutor's profile to see their areas of expertise or message them beforehand to ensure they're a good fit for the specific curriculum your child is following in their Gloucester school.
How flexible is the scheduling for online lessons?
Extremely flexible. You can arrange lesson times directly with your chosen tutor to fit around school, clubs, and family life. Whether you need a session on a weekday evening or a Sunday morning, you can find a schedule that works for you.
My child is also interested in creative writing. Do you offer tutoring for that?
Yes, we do. Many of our English tutors are also passionate about creative writing and can help your child develop their own voice, whether for fun, for school projects, or for university applications. We also offer tutoring in over 300 subjects, from coding and music to modern languages.
How much do online English Literature tutors cost?
Prices vary depending on the tutor's experience and qualifications. You can see each tutor's hourly rate clearly on their profile. There are no hidden fees or contracts, so you can find an excellent tutor that fits your family's budget.
How will I know if my child is making progress?
Your tutor will provide regular feedback on your child's development. You can also message them directly through the platform to discuss progress. The clearest sign, though, is often seeing your child's confidence grow—when they start contributing more in class or feel less anxious about their homework.
Are there tutors who understand the local Gloucestershire context, like the work of Laurie Lee?
While our tutors are based across the UK, many have broad literary knowledge that includes regional authors. The great advantage of online tutoring is that you can find a specialist in almost any area of English Literature, whether it's Shakespeare, modern poetry, or writers connected to your part of the country.
