John H
Experienced English Language tutor
Hi, I’m John, I’m 23 and I’m currently studying law at Demontfort University. I have been tutoring now for almost two years mainly in maths from KS1 up to GCSE and have developed the knowledge and skills to be able to tailor my lessons to best suit the student as no one style will work best for everyone. For example, some students may benefit from shorter lessons, some may benefit from taking the lessons at a much slower pace, some may prefer to just dive straight into questions and many other factors that we will be able to identify together and use to customise the lesson to best suit the stude...

Leigh worked with our teenage son to prepare for his English Language iGCSE. With only a short time before the exam, they quickly developed a constructive rapport. Leigh was quickly able to assess where our son ‘was at’ in terms of his readiness for that exam. Over just a few sessions, analysis and writing skills were imparted and developed that meant our son felt prepared. Moreover, our son so enjoyed the way Leigh worked and his obvious passion for and skills in language analysis, that he chose to continue language analysis sessions just for the fun of it once the exam was over. A comment our son has made more than once after a session is, ‘I just love learning!’ The exam was passed really well – the outcome we hoped would be possible – but more significantly, we are grateful for Leigh’s ability to really draw out and develop our son’s enjoyment of the English language.

Ihsanur R
Last Year I did not do well in English Language in which I had a Grade 3. With my November resits fast approaching I felt very privileged to have Ihsanur as my tutor. He was able to present lessons in a concise way which helped me understand what went well and what I needed to improve on.
After the November resits I managed to obtain a Grade 4 in English Language AQA. I would really recommend him for those taking the GCSE 2026 because he is committed and dedicated in order to achieve academic potential with pupils. Thanks again Ihsanur for the hard work you do.

I can’t recommend Smita enough! After struggling and retaking my English Language exam twice before she’s the only tutor who has truly managed to teach me in a way that makes everything click. She explains things clearly and in a way that actually makes sense. Smita never made me feel judged for needing extra help. She is an genuinly an incredible tutor who genuinely cares about her students’ progress. I honestly wish I’d found her sooner! I can’t thank her enough for helping me. :)

Flora I
Flora has been helping Isla prepare for her English Literature and English Language GCSE exams. From the first lesson, Flora “clicked” with Isla and quickly understood her needs. She made Isla feel comfortable and pinpointed areas for development and was so supportive. Isla felt at ease and could ask questions knowing that the necessary time would be taken to help her understand. Flora was incredibly accommodating, adjusting lesson times and dates as needed. She was also very responsive to messages and promptly returned marked work, going above and beyond to support us. Isla’s work was annotated and marked, providing valuable feedback and areas for future focus, which has been invaluable. Flora’s passion for the subject shone through, thank you so much Flora!

Brilliant English Language tutors who you’ll really click with.
Our experienced tutors take the time to understand where each student needs to focus and their preferred way of learning. They make a measurable difference – 90% of all students improve by at least one grade.
Can an online tutor help my child prepare for the 11+ English exam for competitive Wolverhampton schools?
Absolutely. This is one of the most common reasons parents in Wolverhampton come to us. We have experienced tutors who specialise in 11+ preparation, focusing on the key areas of comprehension, vocabulary, and creative writing needed to perform well under exam conditions. They can build a tailored plan to give your child the skills and confidence they need.
We're worried about my child getting a Grade 5 in GCSE English Language. How can a tutor help?
We understand completely how vital that Grade 5 is. A dedicated tutor can make a significant difference by identifying specific areas for improvement, whether it's analysing unseen texts, mastering persuasive writing, or improving exam technique. They provide focused, one-to-one support to turn weaknesses into strengths and help your child secure the grade they need for their next steps.
Is online tutoring as effective as finding a tutor in Wolverhampton?
We believe it’s even more effective. Online tutoring gives your child access to a much wider pool of specialist tutors from across the UK, not just those who live locally. This means you can find the perfect match for your child’s specific needs and learning style. Plus, the convenience of learning from home saves you time and stress.
What happens if we don't click with the first English Language tutor we try?
Finding the right personality match is essential. We want your child to feel comfortable and inspired. If the first session with a tutor isn't a perfect fit, please email our support team at support@tutorful.co.uk and we will cover the cost of your first lesson with a new tutor.
Do your tutors understand the specific curriculum used in Wolverhampton schools?
Yes, our tutors are experienced with the national curriculum for England and the specific requirements of major exam boards like AQA, Edexcel, and OCR, which are followed by schools across the country, including in Wolverhampton. You can find tutors who specialise in the exact exam board your child is studying for.
How are your English Language tutors vetted?
We're incredibly selective. Every tutor is background-checked, and we interview every applicant to assess their subject knowledge, teaching ability, and passion for education. We only accept 1 in every 8 tutors who apply, ensuring your child is learning from a dedicated and highly qualified professional.
How much do online English Language lessons cost?
Our tutors set their own rates, with prices starting from £15 per hour. The price often reflects a tutor's experience and qualifications. You can easily filter by price on our website to find a brilliant tutor who fits your budget.
My child also needs help with creative writing for fun, not just exams. Do you offer that?
Of course! We believe in fostering a love for subjects beyond the curriculum. Many of our English tutors are passionate writers themselves and would be delighted to help your child explore their creativity, whether it's writing short stories, poetry, or simply building confidence in their own voice.
What technology do we need for online sessions?
It's very straightforward. All your child needs is a computer or tablet with a webcam, a microphone, and a stable internet connection. Our online classroom has all the tools they'll need, including an interactive whiteboard, built right in.
How flexible is the scheduling for lessons?
Extremely flexible. You can arrange lesson times directly with your chosen tutor to find a slot that fits around school, clubs, and family life. Whether you need sessions after school, on weekends, or during the holidays, you can find a schedule that works for you.
How soon can we expect to see progress?
Every child is different, but many parents tell us they see a change in their child's confidence after just a few sessions. Consistent lessons help to build skills and understanding over time, leading to tangible improvements in schoolwork and exam results. 90% of our students improve by at least one grade.
Can we find a tutor who specialises in a specific area, like poetry analysis or Shakespeare?
Yes, that's a key benefit of our platform. You can use our search filters to find tutors who list specific specialisms in their profiles. Whether your child needs help with Victorian literature or modern non-fiction texts, you can find an expert to guide them.
