Leigh H
Leigh worked with our teenage son to prepare for his English Language iGCSE. With only a short time before the exam, they quickly developed a constructive rapport. Leigh was quickly able to assess where our son ‘was at’ in terms of his readiness for that exam. Over just a few sessions, analysis and writing skills were imparted and developed that meant our son felt prepared. Moreover, our son so enjoyed the way Leigh worked and his obvious passion for and skills in language analysis, that he chose to continue language analysis sessions just for the fun of it once the exam was over. A comment our son has made more than once after a session is, ‘I just love learning!’ The exam was passed really well – the outcome we hoped would be possible – but more significantly, we are grateful for Leigh’s ability to really draw out and develop our son’s enjoyment of the English language.

Ihsanur R
Last Year I did not do well in English Language in which I had a Grade 3. With my November resits fast approaching I felt very privileged to have Ihsanur as my tutor. He was able to present lessons in a concise way which helped me understand what went well and what I needed to improve on.
After the November resits I managed to obtain a Grade 4 in English Language AQA. I would really recommend him for those taking the GCSE 2026 because he is committed and dedicated in order to achieve academic potential with pupils. Thanks again Ihsanur for the hard work you do.

I can’t recommend Smita enough! After struggling and retaking my English Language exam twice before she’s the only tutor who has truly managed to teach me in a way that makes everything click. She is an genuinly an incredible tutor who genuinely cares about her students’ progress. I honestly wish I’d found her sooner! I can’t thank her enough for helping me. :)

Flora I
Flora has been helping Isla prepare for her English Literature and English Language GCSE exams. From the first lesson, Flora “clicked” with Isla and quickly understood her needs. She made Isla feel comfortable and pinpointed areas for development and was so supportive. Isla felt at ease and could ask questions knowing that the necessary time would be taken to help her understand. Flora was incredibly accommodating, adjusting lesson times and dates as needed. She was also very responsive to messages and promptly returned marked work, going above and beyond to support us. Isla’s work was annotated and marked, providing valuable feedback and areas for future focus, which has been invaluable. Flora’s passion for the subject shone through, thank you so much Flora!

Is online tutoring really as effective as having a tutor come to our home in Suffolk?
Absolutely. Many parents find it's even more effective! Online lessons offer the same dedicated, one-to-one focus as in-person tutoring, but with added benefits. Your child learns in their own comfortable space, and you get access to a much wider choice of specialist tutors from all over the UK, not just whoever happens to live nearby. Plus, no travel time means it's easier to fit into busy family schedules.
My child is at school in Suffolk. Can a tutor align with their specific curriculum?
Yes, completely. Our tutors are experienced with the national curriculum as well as specific exam boards like AQA, OCR, and Edexcel used by schools across Suffolk. During your first session, the tutor will chat with your child about what they're currently studying, their goals, and any particular areas they find tricky, ensuring the lessons are perfectly matched to their schoolwork.
What if my child doesn't click with their first English Language tutor?
We know that the right relationship is key to learning. That's why we have our first lesson guarantee. If for any reason you feel the first tutor isn't the perfect fit for your child, just email our support team at support@tutorful.co.uk and we will cover the cost of your first session with a new tutor.
Can a tutor help my child appreciate Suffolk's literary connections, like George Orwell?
What a great idea! Yes, many of our English tutors love bringing the subject to life by connecting it to the real world. If your child is inspired by local literary heritage, a tutor can certainly build lessons around authors with links to Suffolk, exploring how place and landscape can influence writing. It's a fantastic way to make their studies feel more relevant and exciting.
How do you ensure your English Language tutors are high quality?
We're very selective because we know how much trust you're placing in us. We only accept 1 in every 8 tutors who apply. Every tutor is interviewed by a member of our team, has their ID verified, and undergoes a background check. They are all experts in their subject, chosen for their ability to teach in an engaging and supportive way.
My child is more interested in creative writing than academic essays. Can you help with that?
Of course! Tutoring is for personal growth and hobbies, not just for school. We have many tutors who are passionate about creative writing, poetry, and storytelling. They can help your child develop their unique voice, build confidence in their ideas, and explore their creativity in a supportive environment.
What technology do we need for online lessons?
It's very simple. All you need is a laptop or computer with a webcam and microphone, and a stable internet connection. Our lessons take place in our custom-built online classroom, which features a video chat function and an interactive whiteboard. It's designed to be user-friendly and engaging for your child.
How long does it typically take to see a change in my child's confidence?
Every child is different, but progress often happens faster than you might think. Because the lessons are one-to-one, your child gets the focused attention they need. Many parents tell us they notice a change in their child's attitude and confidence within just a few sessions, often before they even see the results on paper.
How much do online English Language tutors for students in Suffolk cost?
Our tutors set their own hourly rates, which typically range from £25 to £45, depending on their experience and level of expertise. You can easily filter by price when you search, so you can find a brilliant tutor who fits your family's budget. There are no hidden fees or contracts.
Can we get help specifically with A-Level English Language exam technique?
Yes, absolutely. Many of our tutors are A-Level specialists and are brilliant at teaching exam technique. They can help your child understand mark schemes, structure high-scoring answers, manage their time effectively, and build the confidence they need to perform at their best in the exam hall.
How flexible is the scheduling? Our weeks are already very busy.
That's one of the biggest benefits of online tutoring. You can arrange sessions for whenever suits your family – evenings, weekends, even during school holidays. Because you're not limited to tutors in your immediate area, you have a much wider pool of tutors available at different times, making it easy to find a schedule that works.
My child finds English really dull. How can a tutor make it engaging?
This is where a great tutor makes all the difference. They get to know your child's interests – whether it's sport, gaming, or film – and find ways to connect them to the subject. By using texts and topics your child genuinely cares about, they can transform English from a chore into a subject they actually look forward to.
