Inspiring English Language tutor
Hi, I have been teaching English language and literature for 4 years now and I love helping students reach their potential. I have acquired 7/8s qualifications at gcse. I am familiar with different exam boards such as AQA, Edexcel, OCR and WJEC. I understand the struggle of understanding the content but not getting the marks the examiner is looking for. I am quite patient, flexible and design lessons according to needs. How I structure my lessons depends on the student. During the first lesson I have a conversation with the student about what they find challenging and how I can help. By the end...

Leigh worked with our teenage son to prepare for his English Language iGCSE. With only a short time before the exam, they quickly developed a constructive rapport. Leigh was quickly able to assess where our son ‘was at’ in terms of his readiness for that exam. Over just a few sessions, analysis and writing skills were imparted and developed that meant our son felt prepared. Moreover, our son so enjoyed the way Leigh worked and his obvious passion for and skills in language analysis, that he chose to continue language analysis sessions just for the fun of it once the exam was over. A comment our son has made more than once after a session is, ‘I just love learning!’ The exam was passed really well – the outcome we hoped would be possible – but more significantly, we are grateful for Leigh’s ability to really draw out and develop our son’s enjoyment of the English language.

Ihsanur R
Last Year I did not do well in English Language in which I had a Grade 3. With my November resits fast approaching I felt very privileged to have Ihsanur as my tutor. He was able to present lessons in a concise way which helped me understand what went well and what I needed to improve on.
After the November resits I managed to obtain a Grade 4 in English Language AQA. I would really recommend him for those taking the GCSE 2026 because he is committed and dedicated in order to achieve academic potential with pupils. Thanks again Ihsanur for the hard work you do.

Flora I
Flora has been helping Isla prepare for her English Literature and English Language GCSE exams. From the first lesson, Flora “clicked” with Isla and quickly understood her needs. She made Isla feel comfortable and pinpointed areas for development and was so supportive. Isla felt at ease and could ask questions knowing that the necessary time would be taken to help her understand. Flora was incredibly accommodating, adjusting lesson times and dates as needed. She was also very responsive to messages and promptly returned marked work, going above and beyond to support us. Isla’s work was annotated and marked, providing valuable feedback and areas for future focus, which has been invaluable. Flora’s passion for the subject shone through, thank you so much Flora!

Brilliant English Language tutors who you’ll really click with.
Our experienced tutors take the time to understand where each student needs to focus and their preferred way of learning. They make a measurable difference – 90% of all students improve by at least one grade.
My child is aiming for Luton Sixth Form College. Can a tutor help them get the required English Language grade?
Absolutely. This is a very common goal for families we support in Luton. Our tutors are experienced in helping students secure a 'strong pass' (Grade 5+) by focusing on the specific analytical and writing skills that exams demand, bridging the gap between conversational fluency and academic performance.
Are your tutors actually based in Luton?
Our tutors are based all across the UK, not specifically in Luton. The great advantage of our online platform is that your child can connect with a subject specialist from anywhere in the country, giving you access to the very best talent, not just who happens to live nearby.
How does online tutoring actually work?
It's simple and effective. Lessons take place via video call in our purpose-built online classroom, which features an interactive whiteboard. It offers the same face-to-face, personalised support as in-person tutoring, but with the added convenience of learning from home.
What if my child doesn't get on with their first tutor?
Finding the right fit is everything, and we want you to be completely happy. If it doesn't feel right for any reason, just email our support team at support@tutorful.co.uk and we will cover the cost of your first session with a new tutor.
My child finds analysing poetry really difficult. Can a tutor help with that specifically?
Yes, definitely. This is where one-to-one tutoring really shines. A tutor can dedicate entire sessions to breaking down poetic techniques, exploring themes, and building your child's confidence in tackling poetry, moving at a pace that works for them.
How do you ensure your tutors are high quality?
We have a rigorous selection process and accept only 1 in 8 tutors who apply. Every tutor is interviewed by a real person, background-checked, and has proven subject expertise, so you can be sure your child is learning from some of the best tutors in the UK.
We have a really busy schedule with after-school clubs. Is online tutoring flexible?
Completely. Flexibility is one of the biggest benefits for families. You can schedule sessions for evenings, weekends, or whenever suits you best, working directly with your tutor to find times that fit around your other commitments. No travel time means it's much easier to fit in.
Do you offer tutoring for subjects other than English Language?
Yes, we offer tutoring in over 300 subjects. From core academic subjects like maths and science to languages, coding, music, and even university-level support. Whatever your child needs help with, we're here to support them.
How much does English Language tutoring cost for a student in Luton?
Our tutors set their own rates, but prices for GCSE English Language tutoring typically start from around £22 per hour. You can filter tutors by price on our website to find an expert who fits your budget perfectly.
Is online tutoring suitable for a child who is easily distracted?
Many parents find the one-to-one nature of online tutoring is actually better for children who get distracted. The session is entirely focused on them, keeping them engaged and on-task in a way that isn't always possible in a busy classroom.
Can tutoring also help with my child's overall confidence, not just their grades?
This is at the heart of what we do. Very often, the biggest change parents see is in their child's confidence. When a subject finally 'clicks' with the help of a supportive tutor, it can transform how they feel about their abilities in all areas of school life.
What technology do we need for the lessons?
All you need is a laptop or computer with a webcam, a microphone, and a stable internet connection. Our online classroom is browser-based, so there's no need to download any complicated software.
