Ihsanur R
Last Year I did not do well in English Language in which I had a Grade 3. With my November resits fast approaching I felt very privileged to have Ihsanur as my tutor. He was able to present lessons in a concise way which helped me understand what went well and what I needed to improve on.
After the November resits I managed to obtain a Grade 4 in English Language AQA. I would really recommend him for those taking the GCSE 2026 because he is committed and dedicated in order to achieve academic potential with pupils. Thanks again Ihsanur for the hard work you do.

Smita Paneru S
I can’t recommend Smita enough! After struggling and retaking my English Language exam twice before she’s the only tutor who has truly managed to teach me in a way that makes everything click. She explains things clearly and in a way that actually makes sense. Smita never made me feel judged for needing extra help. She is an genuinly an incredible tutor who genuinely cares about her students’ progress. I honestly wish I’d found her sooner! I can’t thank her enough for helping me. :)

Flora I
Flora has been helping Isla prepare for her English Literature and English Language GCSE exams. From the first lesson, Flora “clicked” with Isla and quickly understood her needs. She made Isla feel comfortable and pinpointed areas for development and was so supportive. Isla felt at ease and could ask questions knowing that the necessary time would be taken to help her understand. Flora was incredibly accommodating, adjusting lesson times and dates as needed. She was also very responsive to messages and promptly returned marked work, going above and beyond to support us. Isla’s work was annotated and marked, providing valuable feedback and areas for future focus, which has been invaluable. Flora’s passion for the subject shone through, thank you so much Flora!

Jessica C
Our son has had four lessons in English Language and English Literature with Jessica so far, as he’s sitting his GCSEs this year. It’s clear Jessica has a strong background and is truly in the right profession—she knows exactly what’s needed and structures each lesson to cover any gaps. She explains everything clearly, focuses on exam technique, and is patient and supportive. Our son enjoys the lessons and already feels more confident. We’re planning to continue and are very glad to have Jessica as his tutor. We highly recommend her!

Can an English Language tutor help my child prepare for the Buckinghamshire 11+ Transfer Test?
Yes, many of our experienced English Language tutors specialise in 11+ preparation. They can provide targeted support in areas like verbal reasoning, comprehension, and vocabulary, helping your child feel confident and ready for the specific demands of the Buckinghamshire 11+ exam, including for grammar schools like Royal Grammar School or Wycombe High.
Are there tutors specifically familiar with the curriculum or entrance requirements for High Wycombe grammar schools?
Absolutely. When searching for an English Language tutor, you can look for those who mention experience with the 11+ Transfer Test and the expectations of local grammar schools in High Wycombe. Many tutors have a deep understanding of what's needed for success at institutions like the Royal Grammar School or Wycombe High, and can tailor lessons accordingly.
Is English Language tutoring just for academic studies, or can my child learn other skills?
While our English Language tutors focus on academic excellence, Tutorful offers a wide range of subjects beyond traditional school topics. Your child could also explore creative writing, public speaking, or even learn a new language, coding, or musical instrument with other specialist tutors on our platform.
What if my child doesn't get along with their first English Language tutor?
We offer a First Lesson Guarantee. If you don't get on with your tutor, email our support team at support@tutorful.co.uk and we will cover your first session with a new tutor. We want to make sure your child finds the perfect match to help them thrive.
How do I choose the best online English Language tutor for my child?
You can browse tutor profiles, read reviews from other parents (our tutors have a 4.6-star rating from over 4,100+ reviews!), and even message tutors directly to discuss your child's specific needs before booking. Look for tutors with experience in the areas your child needs help with, like 11+ preparation or GCSE English.
How much does online English Language tutoring cost?
Tutor rates vary depending on their experience and specialisation, but you'll find a range of options to suit your budget. You can see each tutor's hourly rate clearly displayed on their profile before you book.
How can an English Language tutor help my child build confidence?
One-to-one tutoring provides a safe, supportive space for your child to ask questions and make mistakes without judgment. Tutors celebrate small victories, offer positive reinforcement, and help your child understand concepts at their own pace, which naturally builds their self-belief and reduces anxiety around English.
What does an online English Language lesson look like?
Online lessons take place in our interactive virtual classroom. Tutors and students can use a whiteboard, share documents, and even work through practice papers together, all in real-time. It's designed to be engaging and effective, just like an in-person session, but with the convenience of learning from home.
How will I know if my child is making progress in English Language?
Tutors often provide feedback after each session, and you can communicate with them directly through the platform. Many tutors also set goals and track progress over time, ensuring your child is working towards their objectives, whether that's improved comprehension, stronger writing, or better exam results.
How do you ensure the safety of my child during online English Language lessons?
Your child's safety is paramount. All our tutors are thoroughly background-checked, and we only accept 1 in 8 applicants. Lessons take place in a secure online classroom, and our support team is always available if you have any concerns.
Can English Language tutoring really improve my child's grades?
Yes, it absolutely can. With personalised attention and targeted support, 90% of students improve by at least one grade. For students focusing on GCSE English Language, many see an improvement of up to two grades, as tutors focus on exam techniques and specific areas for development.
How can an English Language tutor help my child build confidence?
Many of our English Language tutors are skilled in a broad range of areas. When you browse profiles, you can see their specialisations. Often, a single tutor can provide comprehensive support, tailoring lessons to cover everything from understanding complex texts and verbal reasoning for the 11+ to developing imaginative stories and essays.
