Leigh worked with our teenage son to prepare for his English Language iGCSE. With only a short time before the exam, they quickly developed a constructive rapport. Leigh was quickly able to assess where our son ‘was at’ in terms of his readiness for that exam. Over just a few sessions, analysis and writing skills were imparted and developed that meant our son felt prepared. Moreover, our son so enjoyed the way Leigh worked and his obvious passion for and skills in language analysis, that he chose to continue language analysis sessions just for the fun of it once the exam was over. A comment our son has made more than once after a session is, ‘I just love learning!’ The exam was passed really well – the outcome we hoped would be possible – but more significantly, we are grateful for Leigh’s ability to really draw out and develop our son’s enjoyment of the English language.

Ihsanur R
Last Year I did not do well in English Language in which I had a Grade 3. With my November resits fast approaching I felt very privileged to have Ihsanur as my tutor. He was able to present lessons in a concise way which helped me understand what went well and what I needed to improve on.
After the November resits I managed to obtain a Grade 4 in English Language AQA. I would really recommend him for those taking the GCSE 2026 because he is committed and dedicated in order to achieve academic potential with pupils. Thanks again Ihsanur for the hard work you do.

Smita Paneru S
I can’t recommend Smita enough! After struggling and retaking my English Language exam twice before she’s the only tutor who has truly managed to teach me in a way that makes everything click. She explains things clearly and in a way that actually makes sense. Smita never made me feel judged for needing extra help. She is an genuinly an incredible tutor who genuinely cares about her students’ progress. I honestly wish I’d found her sooner! I can’t thank her enough for helping me. :)

Flora I
Flora has been helping Isla prepare for her English Literature and English Language GCSE exams. From the first lesson, Flora “clicked” with Isla and quickly understood her needs. She made Isla feel comfortable and pinpointed areas for development and was so supportive. Isla felt at ease and could ask questions knowing that the necessary time would be taken to help her understand. Flora was incredibly accommodating, adjusting lesson times and dates as needed. She was also very responsive to messages and promptly returned marked work, going above and beyond to support us. Isla’s work was annotated and marked, providing valuable feedback and areas for future focus, which has been invaluable. Flora’s passion for the subject shone through, thank you so much Flora!

Brilliant English Language tutors who you’ll really click with.
Our experienced tutors take the time to understand where each student needs to focus and their preferred way of learning. They make a measurable difference – 90% of all students improve by at least one grade.
My child is preparing for their CCEA GCSE English Language exam. Can an online tutor help with this specific curriculum?
Yes, absolutely. Many of our tutors have extensive experience with the CCEA specification and its unique requirements. When you search, you can filter for tutors with specific exam board experience or mention it in your initial message to ensure you find the perfect partner for your child's studies.
How does online tutoring work for a student in Bangor when the tutors are elsewhere in the UK?
It works seamlessly and is a huge advantage! Your child connects with their tutor via video call using our purpose-built online classroom, which includes an interactive whiteboard. This means that from your home in Bangor, your child has access to a much wider pool of subject specialists than would be available locally, ensuring you find the perfect match for their needs and learning style.
What if my child doesn't click with their first English Language tutor?
It's so important that they feel comfortable and understood. We know that the right relationship is key to learning. If the first session isn't a perfect fit, just email our support team at support@tutorful.co.uk and we will cover the cost of your first lesson with a new tutor.
Is online tutoring as effective as meeting a tutor in person?
Absolutely. Many parents tell us they find it even more effective. Our online classroom has interactive tools that make learning engaging and collaborative. Plus, the convenience of no travel means lessons can fit easily into your family's schedule, and your child learns in their own comfortable environment.
How do you make sure your tutors are qualified and safe?
Your child's safety and quality of education are our top priorities. We have a rigorous selection process and accept only 1 in 8 tutors who apply. Every tutor is interviewed by a member of our team, has their ID and qualifications checked, and must provide a clean DBS background check.
My child's main issue is confidence, not just grades. Can a tutor help with that?
This is at the heart of what we do. A one-to-one tutor provides a safe, encouraging space for your child to ask questions without fear of judgement. Celebrating small wins and patiently working through challenges helps build the self-belief that often makes the biggest difference, both in and out of the classroom.
Can a tutor help my child appreciate Northern Ireland's literary heritage, like the work of Seamus Heaney?
What a brilliant goal! Yes, many of our English tutors are passionate about literature from all parts of the UK. They can definitely create sessions that explore the work of Northern Irish poets and writers, connecting your child's studies to their local culture and heritage in a really meaningful way.
How much does online English Language tutoring cost?
Prices vary depending on the tutor's experience and qualifications, starting from around £20 per hour. You can see each tutor's rate clearly on their profile, allowing you to find an excellent tutor who fits your family's budget. There are no hidden fees or long-term contracts.
Beyond English Language, what other subjects could my child get help with?
We offer tutoring in over 300 subjects! Whether your child needs support in maths and the sciences, wants to learn a new language like Spanish or French, or is curious about coding, music, or art, we have expert tutors ready to help them explore their interests.
What technology do we need for an online lesson?
It's very simple. All you need is a laptop or desktop computer with a webcam, a microphone, and a stable internet connection. Our online classroom is browser-based, so there's no complicated software to download. It's designed to be intuitive and easy to use.
How will I know if my child is making progress?
Tutors provide regular feedback to both you and your child, and you can message them at any time through the platform. The real proof, though, is often what you see at home: your child feeling less stressed about homework, speaking more positively about English, and showing a newfound confidence in their abilities.
How flexible is the scheduling for lessons?
Extremely flexible. You can see each tutor's availability on their profile and request slots that work for you. Whether it's after school, on weekends, or during school holidays, you can arrange sessions that fit around your family's busy life, which is one of the biggest benefits of online tutoring.
