Hi there! I'm David - a fully qualified primary school teacher with over 10 years teaching experience. I've taught children with SEN, EAL, behavioural problems and gifted children, across all primary stages. In the past 2 years, I have been tutoring online. Most of my teaching has been in Year 6, specialising in getting children ready for the 11+ exams (English, Maths, Verbal & Non Verbal) and SATs papers (Reading, SPaG & Maths). I know how tricky and confusing it can be for children - and parents - in the lead up to these tests. Whilst tutoring online, I have been specifically focusing on bridging...
Leigh worked with our teenage son to prepare for his English Language iGCSE. With only a short time before the exam, they quickly developed a constructive rapport. Leigh was quickly able to assess where our son ‘was at’ in terms of his readiness for that exam. Over just a few sessions, analysis and writing skills were imparted and developed that meant our son felt prepared. Moreover, our son so enjoyed the way Leigh worked and his obvious passion for and skills in language analysis, that he chose to continue language analysis sessions just for the fun of it once the exam was over. A comment our son has made more than once after a session is, ‘I just love learning!’ The exam was passed really well – the outcome we hoped would be possible – but more significantly, we are grateful for Leigh’s ability to really draw out and develop our son’s enjoyment of the English language.

Ihsanur R
Last Year I did not do well in English Language in which I had a Grade 3. With my November resits fast approaching I felt very privileged to have Ihsanur as my tutor. He was able to present lessons in a concise way which helped me understand what went well and what I needed to improve on.
After the November resits I managed to obtain a Grade 4 in English Language AQA. I would really recommend him for those taking the GCSE 2026 because he is committed and dedicated in order to achieve academic potential with pupils. Thanks again Ihsanur for the hard work you do.

Flora I
Flora has been helping Isla prepare for her English Literature and English Language GCSE exams. From the first lesson, Flora “clicked” with Isla and quickly understood her needs. She made Isla feel comfortable and pinpointed areas for development and was so supportive. Isla felt at ease and could ask questions knowing that the necessary time would be taken to help her understand. Flora was incredibly accommodating, adjusting lesson times and dates as needed. She was also very responsive to messages and promptly returned marked work, going above and beyond to support us. Isla’s work was annotated and marked, providing valuable feedback and areas for future focus, which has been invaluable. Flora’s passion for the subject shone through, thank you so much Flora!

Brilliant English Language tutors who you’ll really click with.
Our experienced tutors take the time to understand where each student needs to focus and their preferred way of learning. They make a measurable difference – 90% of all students improve by at least one grade.
My child is aiming for a competitive Ipswich sixth form like Northgate or One. Can a tutor focus on securing a grade 6 in GCSE English Language?
Absolutely. This is a common goal for parents we work with. Our tutors are experts at identifying the specific skills needed to move up a grade boundary. They can create a personalised plan focusing on exam technique, essay structure, and analytical skills to help your child secure the grade they need for their A-Level choices.
Is online tutoring as effective as having someone come to our home in Ipswich?
Yes, and in many ways, it's even better. Online tutoring gives your child access to a much wider pool of top specialist tutors from across the UK, not just those who live locally. With interactive tools and a focused one-to-one environment, it delivers the same quality of teaching, but with far more flexibility and convenience for your family.
We're worried a weak English Language grade could affect their chances for universities like UEA or Essex. How can tutoring help?
We completely understand. A strong English Language GCSE is fundamental for many university courses. Our tutors help build the core communication and analytical skills that admissions tutors at universities like UEA look for. By strengthening these foundations now, you're giving your child a much stronger platform for their future applications and studies.
What happens if my child doesn't click with their first English Language tutor?
Finding the right personality match is crucial, and we want you both to be happy. If the first session isn't a perfect fit, just email our friendly support team at support@tutorful.co.uk and we will cover the cost of your first lesson with a new tutor.
How are your tutors selected?
We're very selective because your child deserves the best. We only accept 1 in 8 tutors who apply. Every tutor is interviewed, background-checked, and has proven subject expertise, ensuring you get a high-quality, trusted professional.
My child has lost all confidence in English. How can a tutor help with that?
This is where one-to-one tutoring really shines. A tutor provides a safe, encouraging space where your child can work at their own pace without fear of judgement. By celebrating small wins and breaking down difficult topics, our tutors help rebuild that self-belief, often transforming a child's entire attitude towards a subject.
Do your tutors understand the Suffolk school curriculum?
Yes. Our tutors are experienced with the national curriculum used in schools across England, including Suffolk. They are adept at tailoring their support to complement what your child is learning at school, helping to reinforce classroom teaching and fill in any gaps.
How much do online English Language lessons cost?
Prices vary depending on the tutor's experience and qualifications. You can browse tutors' profiles to see their individual rates. There are no hidden fees or contracts, so you have complete control and transparency.
What technology do we need for online lessons?
It's very simple. All your child needs is a laptop or computer with a webcam, a microphone, and a stable internet connection. Our online classroom is easy to use and has all the tools needed for an engaging lesson, like an interactive whiteboard.
Can we get help with specific areas, like poetry analysis or exam technique?
Of course. That's the beauty of one-to-one tutoring. Whether your child needs to focus specifically on analysing unseen texts, structuring persuasive essays, or mastering punctuation, the tutor can create lessons that target those exact areas for improvement.
My child is also interested in creative writing. Do you offer tutoring for hobbies as well as exams?
We do! Learning should be a joy. We have many tutors who are passionate about nurturing creativity. Whether it's for GCSEs, A-Levels, or simply for the love of writing, we can connect your child with a tutor who can inspire them.
How many sessions will my child need to see an improvement?
It varies for each child, but consistency is key. Many parents tell us they see a noticeable boost in their child's confidence and understanding within just a few weeks. Your tutor will work with you to set clear goals and track progress along the way.
