I am an effective and efficient tutor. By keeping a close eye on each student’s development, I ensure that each lesson has a specific objective and contributes towards their overall progress. I am organised and am always prepared, bringing clear lesson plans and homework to each session. Furthermore, I am able to tailor these to the needs of pupils and their parents and always design lessons in accordance with their specific needs; this adaptability is a skill I have practiced while working as a tutor over the past few months. Following an initial discussion about strengths and weaknesses and p...

Josh L
Josh has been tutoring my son for several weeks now. When asking my son what he thought of the sessions she shared that the lessons were varied and he makes it interesting and fun, ( My Son is in year 10 - age 14) We were looking for a tutor to help my son with his English as he had a difficult year last year with his teacher and it became a dread and a stress. Having Josh tutoring him has given him more confidence in the subject. He is keen to have the lesson and always comes down afterwards and shares something good about it. He seems to be progressing well at school and I know these sessions can only be helping with that.

Grace B
My daughter worked with Grace as she wanted to re-take her English Language GCSE to improve her grade. My daughter thought Grace was a fantastic teacher. After her first lesson she said she had learnt more in an hour with her than she had in her previous two years at school! She has a lovely friendly manner and put my daughter at ease straight away. She also puts a lot into the lessons through preparation, marking and generally guiding the learning where it's needed most. As an examiner herself she also has a clear understanding of what students need to work on to succeed. Couldn't recommend her highly enough and whether or not my daughter does improve her grade, I know that the lessons were worthwhile. Thank you Grace!

John M
John has been nothing short of a miracle worker with our Year 9 son. In a matter of a few lessons his confidence in English has really grown. He was previously really disengaged with English & it was a real effort to get him to spend any amount of time on it. Now with John’s encouragement, he actually shows me his English homework & wants to improve, work at it. Highly recommend

Brilliant English tutors who you’ll really click with.
Our experienced tutors take the time to understand where each student needs to focus and their preferred way of learning. They make a measurable difference – 90% of all students improve by at least one grade.
My child is at Church Stretton School. Can a tutor help with their application to Shrewsbury Sixth Form?
Absolutely. Many of our tutors have experience helping students secure places at competitive sixth forms. They can focus on strengthening your child's English skills to ensure their application stands out and they meet the entry requirements for their desired A-Level courses.
We're worried a weak English GCSE could limit their A-Level choices. Can a tutor help?
Yes, this is a common concern we help parents with. A tutor can identify the specific areas where your child needs support, whether it's essay writing or exam technique. By building their skills and confidence, we can help them achieve the grades needed to keep their A-Level and university options open.
How do I choose the right English tutor for my child?
You can read tutor profiles to see their experience, qualifications, and what other parents have said about them. We recommend messaging a few to find someone your child will get on with. Many tutors offer a free 15-minute video chat so you can get to know them before booking.
What happens if my child doesn't click with their first tutor?
We know that the right fit is important for learning. That's why we have our First Lesson Guarantee. If you don't get on with your tutor, email our support team at support@tutorful.co.uk and we will cover your first session with a new tutor.
How do I know the tutors are safe and qualified?
Your child's safety is our top priority. We personally interview every tutor and all of them must have a valid DBS check. We are very selective, and only 1 in 8 tutors who apply are accepted onto our platform, so you can be sure your child is learning from the best.
How much does an online English tutor cost?
Our tutors set their own prices, which are displayed clearly on their profiles. Prices vary based on experience and level, so you can find an expert tutor who fits your budget. There are no hidden fees or contracts.
How can online tutoring help my child build confidence?
One-to-one lessons create a safe space for your child to ask questions without feeling embarrassed. When a tutor tailors sessions to their needs, your child starts to see real progress, which is a huge confidence booster. It's often that 'lightbulb moment' that makes all the difference.
What happens in a typical online English lesson?
Lessons take place in our online classroom, which has features like a shared whiteboard and document sharing. A tutor might work through a specific text with your child, review practice exam questions, or focus on improving their essay structure, depending on what they need most.
Do you only offer academic subjects, or can my child learn other skills?
While we cover all academic subjects from Primary to A-Level, we also have brilliant tutors who can teach skills like coding, learning a musical instrument like the guitar, or even public speaking. There's a tutor for almost any goal.
How long are the tutoring sessions?
The standard session length is one hour, which most parents find works perfectly. However, you can arrange different session lengths with your tutor directly if your child would benefit from a shorter or longer lesson.
How quickly can we start?
You can get started very quickly. Simply find a tutor you like, send them a message to arrange a time, and book your first lesson. Many tutors can start within a few days.
Are the lessons recorded?
Yes, all lessons can be recorded. This is a great feature as it allows your child to revisit tricky topics and review what they've learned, which is especially useful during revision periods.
