Professional and inspiring English and English tutor
Maths is usually the subject students struggle with most at school mainly due to the lack of individual help during lessons. Students often don’t ask for help when faced with a topic they find hard and so they develop gaps in their learning, which in itself become problematic later on. In my opinion the first objective of private tutoring in maths should be to systematically deal with those gaps, which are usually identified within the first couple of lessons. Once the gaps are covered, we can then proceed to cover the necessary course material based on individual requirements.I have extensive e...

Mamun A
My son is really improving since starting lessons with Mamun. From the start of the lesson getting almost all questions wrong to by the end completely understanding it all. Tested him a few days later and he got almost every question right without any help at all he remembered all the punctuation in all questions, shocked how much he's improved from just one lesson on it! Mamun's teaching is brilliant and it really seems to stick in my sons head. Also my son is very fussy with his ASD/ADHD and is often open about his feelings towards people, especially new people most often than not he will say he doesn't like this person because of this or that, but he said he likes his tutor and wants to do more lessons which is brilliant. Mamun is always on time, very patient and explains thoroughly, he gives brilliant feedback afterwards too. Highly recommend this tutor and I'm glad I chose him rather than someone else.

Brilliant English tutors who you’ll really click with.
Our experienced tutors take the time to understand where each student needs to focus and their preferred way of learning. They make a measurable difference – 90% of all students improve by at least one grade.
My child is aiming for a competitive course at a London university like LSE or UCL. Can a tutor help with this?
Absolutely. Many of our English tutors are experienced in helping students prepare for university applications. They can help your child develop the advanced analytical and essay-writing skills needed to write a strong personal statement and excel in interviews for competitive courses like Law, English Literature, or History.
We're preparing for entrance exams for a competitive school like Westminster. Can we find a tutor with specific experience?
Yes. You can use our search filters to find tutors with experience in 11+, 13+, and sixth form entrance exams. Many tutors specialise in helping students build the specific comprehension, critical thinking, and writing skills required by highly selective schools. You can message them before booking to discuss your child's specific needs.
What if my child doesn't click with their first tutor?
We want to make sure you find the perfect match. That's why we have our first lesson guarantee. If you don't get on with your tutor for any reason, just email our support team at support@tutorful.co.uk and we will cover your first session with a new tutor.
Is this just for academic English, or can my child get help with other skills?
While we have thousands of academic tutors, Tutorful is also a place to learn a huge range of skills! You can find tutors for everything from learning a musical instrument like the guitar, to coding in Python, or even mastering a new language for a holiday.
How do I choose the right English tutor for my child?
You can read detailed tutor profiles, watch their introductory videos, and check reviews from other parents. We recommend looking for a tutor whose experience matches your child's goals, whether that's GCSE exam technique or building foundational reading skills. You can also message tutors for free to ask questions before you book.
How much does an online English tutor cost?
Prices vary depending on the tutor's experience and qualifications. Tutors set their own rates, which are clearly displayed on their profiles. You can use our search filters to find tutors who fit within your budget, with no hidden fees or contracts.
My child is losing confidence in English. How can a tutor help?
One-to-one tutoring is a fantastic way to build confidence. In a supportive, private setting, your child can ask questions they might be hesitant to ask in class. Tutors celebrate small wins and break down difficult topics, helping your child see their own progress and feel more capable and positive about the subject.
How do the online lessons work?
Our online classroom has everything your child needs for a great lesson, including a two-way interactive whiteboard, video chat, and file sharing. It’s designed to be simple and engaging. All your child needs is a laptop or computer, a webcam, and a stable internet connection.
How often should my child have a lesson?
Most families find that one lesson a week is a great starting point for consistent progress. However, the frequency is completely up to you and can be discussed with your tutor. You might want more sessions leading up to an important exam, or fewer during school holidays.
How do I know the tutors are safe to work with my child?
Your child's safety is our top priority. Every tutor on our platform has undergone a background check. We also interview every tutor and only accept 1 in 8 applicants, so you can be confident you're choosing from a pool of highly qualified and trusted professionals.
Is online tutoring as effective as in-person?
Yes, many parents find it's even more effective! Online lessons are focused and free from distractions. With features like the interactive whiteboard and the ability to record sessions to review later, online tutoring provides a flexible and powerful learning experience. In fact, 90% of our students improve by at least one grade.
My child is worried about their English GCSEs. How much can a tutor help?
A tutor can make a huge difference. They can identify specific areas your child needs to work on, from understanding *An Inspector Calls* to mastering persuasive writing. They provide targeted practice and feedback, which is why students who use Tutorful for their GCSEs can improve their final results by up to two grades.
