Question 1

How does Tutorful find the right cycling tutor for my child?

Accepted Answer

We take the guesswork out of it. Instead of endless searching, you answer a few short questions about your child's current cycling ability and what they hope to achieve. We then use this information to carefully match them with a small selection of tutors who have the right expertise and approach for their needs.

Question 2

What is the online classroom like for cycling lessons?

Accepted Answer

Our online classroom is specifically designed for effective learning. It features an interactive whiteboard where tutors can share diagrams of bike parts, demonstrate road safety scenarios, or even draw out routes. They can annotate in real-time, and all sessions are recorded, so your child can revisit any lesson before their next ride or test.

Question 3

What if the first cycling lesson isn't a good fit?

Accepted Answer

We understand that finding the right connection is important. If, for any reason, your child doesn't get on with their tutor after the initial session, simply email support@tutorful.co.uk and we will cover the cost of that first lesson when you book with a new tutor.

Question 4

My child is new to cycling lessons, where do we start?

Accepted Answer

Many children come to us new to formal cycling instruction. Our tutors are skilled at assessing their current level, building fundamental skills, and gently progressing at a pace that suits them. Just let us know their starting point when you answer our matching questions.

Question 5

Is online tutoring suitable for practical subjects like cycling?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely. While the practical riding happens outside, online tutoring is ideal for mastering the theoretical knowledge, safety rules, understanding bike mechanics, route planning, and preparing for tests like the Bikeability scheme. Tutors use visual aids and discussions to make complex topics clear.

Question 6

Can a Tutorful tutor help with Bikeability qualifications?

Accepted Answer

Yes, many of our cycling tutors are experienced in supporting students through Bikeability levels 1, 2, and 3. They can help your child understand the theory, road rules, and hazard perception required, building their confidence for the practical assessments.

Question 7

My child wants to improve their mountain biking technique, can tutors help?

Accepted Answer

While the actual riding happens outdoors, an online tutor can provide invaluable guidance on technique, body positioning, gear selection, trail etiquette, and mental preparation for challenging terrain. They can review videos or diagrams to offer targeted advice.

Question 8

What aspects of cycling can online tutors cover?

Accepted Answer

Our tutors can cover a wide range of cycling topics, from fundamental bike control and road safety for beginners to advanced techniques for specific disciplines like road cycling, mountain biking, or even triathlons. They can also assist with bike maintenance knowledge and route planning.

Question 9

How do I schedule cycling lessons around our busy family life?

Accepted Answer

Online tutoring offers complete flexibility. You can view a tutor's availability and book sessions that fit your schedule, whether that's after school, on weekends, or during holidays. There's no travel time, making it much easier to integrate into busy routines.

Question 10

Are the cycling tutors qualified?

Accepted Answer

We have a rigorous vetting process, accepting only about 1 in 8 applicants. Our tutors are experienced educators, coaches, or enthusiasts with strong knowledge in cycling and a proven ability to teach effectively. Many have specific coaching qualifications or experience with cycling programmes.

Question 11

How can online tutoring help a shy child with their cycling?

Accepted Answer

The one-to-one online environment can be less intimidating than group settings. Tutors can create a calm, supportive space where a shy child feels comfortable asking questions and making mistakes without feeling judged, allowing them to build confidence at their own pace.

Question 12

Can I stay involved in my child's online cycling lessons?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely. You can sit in on sessions if you wish, and you'll have access to the recorded lessons to review progress or understand what was covered. Tutors are also happy to provide feedback and discuss your child's development directly with you.
