I am a graduate from the University of Cambridge where I studied for a master's in Applied Mathematics. Prior to this, I studied Physics with Theoretical Astrophysics at the University of Nottingham. I have experience in teaching and tutoring both Physics and Mathematics at all secondary levels (KS3, GCSE and A level). I was extremely dedicated to my studies and achieved high firsts in both of my degrees. I currently tutor a number of students in all the Sciences and Mathematics, as well as the computer programming language MATLAB. I am happy to take on further students in any of these areas, so please inquire if you're interested.
I am highly motivated and very interested in physics and mathematics, and am keen to convey that enthusiasm to students. I am aware that Maths and Physics tend to have bad reputations as being difficult or boring subjects. I strive to challenge that view by offering alternative and engaging approaches to the curriculum content, in particular stressing how useful these subjects are in every day life and in future careers. I am flexible and create each lesson on an individual basis to suit the student - I know that everyone has different strengths and weaknesses. As a result, I ensure that my lessons are fully tailored to each student's personal needs. I enjoy working with young people and hope that they can consider me as friendly and approachable. I am a good listener and feel that I would be able to help students regardless of their ability.
I am fully capable of tutoring up to degree level in both Physics and Mathematics, and up to at least GCSE level for other Science subjects. I think this is expressed the A Level grades I achieved - I know how to achieve the very best marks and would love to share that knowledge with others. I am keen to address the common problems students have with Science and Mathematics subjects, such as problem solving and tackling exam-style questions. My experience and understanding of the new 9-1 GCSE system and re-worked A level curricula enable me to address these issues thoroughly.
I also offer tuition in the computer programming language MATLAB, which is something I used extensively throughout my Physics degree.
A good knowledge of matlab and maths, really helped me when working through the functions!
My son just started with Finn for his A-level physics and he said that Finn's clarity and help were invalulable. Thank you Finn, you make a real dfference here!
Finn is a great maths tutor and has helped me understand topics that I could not understand before. I would totally recommend him to others.
Finn is a good tutor have had two lessons and I can see improvement. I can recommend anyone.
Great Matlab tutor! Explained everything very clear. Much appreciated the help.
Excellent attention to detail. Excellent knowledge of curriculum. Daughter enjoys her sessions and is developing high standard of knowledge.
It is early days but Finn is currently doing Physics and Maths lessons with my 15 year old son getting him ready for his GCSEs, these are online lessons which we had not thought of before but so far they are going really well. My son has said the lessons are very clear and informative and he feels he is already taking strides forward. Even at such early days for us we would have no hesitation in recommending Finn.
Finn has been excellent in teaching my son. He prepares for the lessons well and gives my son useful help in both exam technique and concept comprehension.
