I am the proprietor (GHR reg) of Skylight Hypnotherapy and Counselling and also work as a Hypnotherapist and Counselor in the business (www.skylight-liverpool.co.uk). Prior to this I was an Assistant Clinical Psychologist working with adults with Acquired Brain Injury for 3 years. I worked as a Secondary School teacher and College lecturer (including SEN) for over 5 years and have a P.G.C.E. in Secondary Science, BSc Hons Chemistry and Pharmacology (2.2), BSc Hons Applied Psychology (2.1) and MEd in Advanced Educational Practice (Distinction). The dissertation was about whether FE or Rehabilitation context supports adults learning with an Acquired Brain Injury better, and I wrote a journal article following it. I have also been involved in the British Psychology Society Northwest Committee for the last 3 years in a voluntary role promoting Psychology in the Northwest and providing free events in doing so. I work part-time due to having a young family.
My approach to tutoring is to ask the client what they want from the sessions, what information they wish to revise and approximately how much they intend to get through in the time available. Different clients require different approaches, but I expect them to become involved with the learning process and the schedule of what need to be done. The best grades tend to be acquired by students who are actively engaged with the sessions and who have an intrinsic motivation to learn.
Mari-Anne has put me on the right path, clearing up the doubts I had with my work to date. Using her wealth of knowledge in psychology and academia generally, she explained the fundamentals and has motivated me with her enthusiasm for psychology. Thank you very much Mari-Anne!

My daughter Rachel has recently started to spend time with her tutor Marianne and while I am completely happy with how she is settling I felt the best person to give a review on how things where going was Rachel so I asked her to describe her time with Marianne. She said that Marianne is supportive of her needs and tailed her approach to what she needed she listened and spent time asking questions to understand how best to help. She explains things clearly Rachel couldn't praise her enough and is confident that she will give her the best opportunity to be successful. Marianne is funny and cares about her. What more could any parent want especially in such a short time theyve spent together.
