I have worked in schools for the last 6 years (nursery to year 6) and have tutored (on-off) for three years. I have provided tuition for SATs, 11+ and phonics screening preparation. I have also tutored to support lower achievers and those with low confidence, as well as gifted and talented children. These students have achieved great results.
I have nearly completed my BA (Hons) in Primary Education, with qualified teacher status. So far I have achieved a high 2:1 for my academic work and a grade 1(outstanding) for my teaching. Throughout the course I have taught classes across the primary age range, including SATs year groups. I have also had the opportunity to teach in a special needs school.
I am passionate about supporting children’s learning and I believe that it is important to take a individualized approach to teaching. Thus, my teaching style is very creative and innovative. I like to use the child’s learning style and interests, to support their learning. I set achievable, yet challenging, goals for children. I think it is important that children are aware of these targets, so that they understand that their ability is not fixed, and know what they need to do to improve.
As a class teacher, it can be challenging to create such personalized learning opportunities, due to the number of children in a class. Through 1:1 / small group tutoring, I have seen children make substantial progress and overcome barriers in a shorter amount of time. This is why I find tutoring particularly rewarding.
I am happy to travel to the child’s home if they feel more comfortable there. I also tutor from my own home in Canterbury.
