After twelve years of gainful employment as a Laboratory Services Scientist in United Utilities (formerly North West Water), during which I studied part-time and gained an upper-second class honours degree in Applied Biology, I left to embark on the Post Graduate Certificate of Education at John Moores University, Liverpool. During this course I completed my first block of teaching practice at Knowsley Community College Sixth Form, where I gained a variety of post-16 teaching experiences, and my second block of teaching practice at Hilbre High School, West Kirby. I successfully completed this course in June 1999.

From September 2000 to August 2013 I worked at St John Plessington Catholic College (SJP) gaining my Qualified Teacher Status in 2001. During my time at SJP I gained considerable experience in teaching science of all disciplines to pupils of all ranges of age and ability. I have taught successfully all the units of the Key Stage 3 QCA scheme to Years 7, 8 and 9. I have also taught Physics on the GCSE Co-ordinated Science course, Biology units on the GCSE Modular Science Double Award course, GCSE Applied Science Double Award and GCSE Applied Science. More recently I have taught AQA Core Science and BTEC Science.
I have also taught BTEC Health and Social Care and units of the Edexcel Health and Social Care ‘A’ Level courses to Sixth Form students. I also have considerable experience of teaching AQA AS and A2 Level Psychology to Sixth Form students.

In August of last year I left SJP with a preference to do supply/fixed-term contract teaching as this fits in better with my personal circumstances and my long-term career plans. From November 2013 I was on a long-term supply teaching assignment at Academy of St Francis of Assisi in Liverpool. There I taught KS3 Science, BTEC Science and ‘A’ Level Biology. I also enjoyed teaching AS Level Psychology students on the OCR course and BTEC Level 2 and 3 Health and Social Care. From September 2014 to October 2015, I was employed at Academy of St Francis of Assisi on a permanent contract as a Teacher of Health and Social Care. However, my preference for a temporary contract and return to my subject specialism led me to hand in my notice. I am therefore available to work from 1st January 2016.

I am committed to delivering the curriculum to my students in a way which I feel best fits their needs. I am keen to draw upon a variety of resources in order to stimulate and sustain their interest with an emphasis on applying knowledge and understanding, thereby developing students' transferable skills of analysis, evaluation and critical thinking. I like to be creative and imaginative in my delivery of lessons and I have produced many resources such as PowerPoint to enhance teaching and learning.

Throughout my career in industry and education I have always been a proven team player, formed excellent working relationships with colleagues and maintained a sense of humour.
