Since completing my PGCE in 1999 I have worked as a Secondary teacher, (English, Drama and Media BTEC), for over 17 years, and am currently working at UPS2 level. I have worked for a number of Local Education Authorities in permanent positions, however since September 2014, as a response to my desire to be more flexible, I have worked for New Directions Education Ltd.
I have a thorough knowledge of my subject and have delivered both AQA and WJEC exam specifications and Entry Level at KS4, including the current exam only 2015 specification. In order to enable students to progress I employ a differentiated learning approach and resources which will be bespoke to each student based on their ability and needs. This approach informs my planning, preparation and delivery, including assessment and monitoring progress to develop a personalised learning programme.
I have also had experience of managing and teaching Functional Skills Literacy courses through ASDAN, having delivered ESOL Level 1 English Access course to Year 12 pupils, many of whom had English as a second language or learning difficulties. The course aimed to enable young people to develop English and life skills so that they could continue through further education and access Level 2 and 3 courses at Further Education Colleges.
Working with students and being part of the process of enabling them to become confident, independent learners is both fulfilling and enjoyable. Throughout my 17 years of teaching, I have loved the interaction with different people and still have a passion for my subject.
