Teaching has, and always will be a great passion for me, as I have always enjoyed a very positive rapport with my students and colleagues. I have always taken pleasure in the challenge of preparing engaging, fun and challenging lessons and materials for my students, which meet the individual's needs.
As an inspirational teacher with a 29 year record of being judged to be consistently ‘outstanding’ by line-managers and Ofsted Inspectors, I am passionate about teaching and also about sharing my experience and drive. All my lessons are judged to be ‘outstanding’ and this is reflected in the results. My students’ GCSE results in German are consistently among the best nationally – with almost all my students achieving at least 1 grade higher than their target, and in most cases, 2 or 3 grades higher.
I held the post of Head of Modern Foreign Languages in an outstanding school for 16 years. My preferred subject is German, which I have taught very successfully for 26 years from primary level to ‘A’ Level and adults. From 1990 to 1997 I taught German and French in British Forces’ Schools in Germany, which was extremely rewarding, particularly as I was able to foster very positive and long-lasting friendships between our students and those in neighbouring German schools. My work there also gave me the opportunity to develop a deeper understanding of the country, culture and people.
I believe that I have a wealth of experience which I can bring to the field of personal tutoring, as I have taught all age groups (from primary children to adults) and am very adaptable, approachable, friendly and enthusiastic about languages.
In my last school and previous role, I was not only an outstanding teacher who consistently delivered lessons of the highest quality in Languages and had outstanding results, but my leadership of the Languages Department, and of Teaching and Learning across the school had a significant impact on the quality of Learning throughout the school.
In 2012 I was awarded the title of Specialist Leader in Education, which has enabled me to do consultation work in a number of schools.
In July 2016 I completed my CELTA course, which qualifies me to teach English as a second and foreign language. I currently teach various international students, children and adults, as well as at 2 language schools. I also teach German to adults at an evening class, which I really enjoy.
Rita has been tutoring my son in KS3 English for just 6 weeks and I can already see a real improvement in his school work. My son lacked both focus and confidence in his writing, but the sessions with Rita have enabled him to see that with just a little extra effort on his part he is capable of achieving so much more. Rita's lessons are exactly as described by her on this site - they are fun (I can tell this by all the laughter) and engaging (Rita tailors her content to Jack's interests as well as his needs). I would not hesitate in recommending Rita as a tutor.
