Hello my name is David and I am 25 years old. I am a bubbly, patient and caring person and I always enjoy socialising with new people.
I hold a PVG Disclosure certificate, GTCS certificate showing that I am fully qualified as a Primary Teacher and I hold an undergraduate degree: MA (Hons) Education from the University of Aberdeen.
I am very passionate about performing on stage and I have done since I was a second year pupil at High School. I have starred in many musicals such as Hairspray, Sister Act, Back to the 80's, High School Musical, Flashdance and Oliver. I am a grade 8 violinist and have performed in many orchestras in Midlothian.
I am enthusiastic about Maths, English and Music and believe tasks should be fun and engaging so that students are able to remember the methods taught.
I can tailor tutoring to suit any personal aims or goals and encourage all students to try their best whatever their ability.
I qualified as a Primary Teacher in 2015 and I have taught children throughout this range and my classes have included children with special educational needs, those who are gifted and talented and those who are working within the expected level. I can break down any topic into steps to assist a students understanding. My past students have achieved above and beyond school targeted grades.
I am looking to gain as much experience as possible by becoming a private tutor and I have my own resources that I will use to help my students learn and develop. My school was recently inspected and I was told that my teaching methods and lessons were innovate, inspiring, fun and the children in my class were fully engaged.
You will enjoy a variety of activities in my lessons. I get on with people well. I use various motivation and facilitation techniques helping you to strengthen your confidence. My approach to teaching is patient, calm and nurturing. If my student has not understood something, that is not their fault, and we shall work together to solve the problem.
I'd rather help the student realise the answer themselves rather than simply giving them the answer, and seeing a student's face light up when they find the answer is the best feeling ever. I enjoy implementing new teaching strategies to help children flourish as young learners and pass on the skills I have learned to them.
I think it is imperative to allow children to experience real-life scenarios through active learning approaches and giving them concrete resources as an immediate tool to help them. I plan each session carefully building on previous sessions and knowledge and understanding of area.
David tutored our daughter in primary 7 Maths pre-Christmas and quickly got her to the level she should be performing at. Prior to this she was in a group considerably below the level she was capable of and David built both her ability and confidence in a very short time. He did make a difference and happy to recommend.
