Undertake an internship
Internships and “shadow work” are great ways to get into your desired subject of study or job after A-levels.
Finding an internship that is linked to your chosen course can really help set up opportunities for you. For example, a fascination with business may lead someone towards marketing internships- great to put on your UCAS application, CV, or both. It shows commitment and interest which will impress employers who might see these qualities standing out from others when hiring.
Part-time or summer jobs
Within a few months, an A-level student needs to go from relying on parents and carers to being self-sufficient. Having a part-time or summer job is an excellent way of taking that first step to being “streetwise” financially. After all what better way of understanding the true value of money than earning it yourself!
Build a portfolio
As far as a list of life skills to learn goes, building a portfolio is a great thing to do to support your university or job application. A number of university courses will ask to see a collection of work to understand whether you are a suitable candidate. Creative jobs often ask for this too from videographers to photographers and website designers.
