Struggling to hit level 8-9 in maths? Or want an introduction to harder themes? This class covers most algebra subjects from the basics to tougher topics such as surds and inequalities. Each lesson is packed with questions for exam practice and Kahoot quizzes!
120 mins
Part 1: Back to the Basics We'll start off by covering foundation algebra so we are ready to tackle the big topics. This lesson is fast paced and assumes students have already learned the following level 1-3 topics, but need a refresher: -Solving equations -Collecting like terms -Rearranging -Substitution Part 2: Factorising and Expanding This is a core subject that spans across all the maths topics so we will focus on method and speed. The lesson starts off with easier level 1-3 questions and ends with students tackling the tricky triple brackets (level 6-7). Kahoot and Mentimeter will be used to test your knowledge and put your speed to the test!

Part 1: Quadratics Although the methods surrounding quadratic questions are repetitive, students often find them difficult because each step utilises other algebraic concepts. Here, we will abolish the myth that the x squared function is complex, and use our previous lesson outcomes to introduce simple techniques to solve quadratics. Part 2: Inequalities and Quadratics Continued Seemingly difficult, the inequalities seen in GCSE papers are very similar to normal algebra questions, just without the ""="" sign. We will learn how to treat inequalities like any other equation, and, if time permitted, we'll end with the level 8-9 quadratic inequality.

Part 1: Surds I always tell my students: "If you can master the manipulation of x and the basic rules of algebra, surds will be a piece of cake!" We will start by refreshing ourselves with the rules of indices and work our way slowly to level 8-9 "rationalising the denominator" questions. Be prepared to test your speed on indices with Kahoot! Part 2: Using your brain Previous lessons cover topics with set methods and question styles. However, we will finish the class with topics where no two questions are the same! These are: -algebraic proof and -rearranging where x appears twice. Practice makes perfect here, so this lesson will focus solely on exam styled Qs, and finish with a summary quiz.
