Our purpose is to give students a wider understanding of their subject beginning Year 13. The subject will be introduced by considering curious features of Chemistry and connecting them to the first principles of the subject.
How can the world capture more of Solar Energy? What is the role of a chemist in this endeavour? Would it make a difference?
Drug Discovery is mostly accidental. As the understanding of how drugs work improves can we improve on our methods of identifying new treatments? How will Chemistry assist this process?
Chemistry is expanding away from making things to monitoring processes. One group of processes which we find intensely interesting is our personal biochemistry. Will it be possible to develop monitoring processes for human biochemistry? What harms and benefits may follow?
Although electric transport increases annually some engines still need hydrocarbons, e.g. engines of container vessels. Can Chemistry contribute to better ways of making Biofuels? What forms of enquiry are needed to achieve that?
