This class will cover cell biology and organisation, which are the first two topics in AQA GCSE Biology. These sessions will be useful for students who feel they may have some gaps in their knowledge, need a good recap of earlier topics or maybe for those who want a head start to GCSE biology. I aim to make these sessions as interactive as possible, through using quizzes and online activities throughout. Towards the end of each session we will also run through a few exam questions and cover vital exam skills. There will be a chance for students to let me know about anything they still struggle with, which we can run through at the start of next lesson. All students will get access to lesson resources, relevant activity mats/work sheets or exam questions for practice.

In the first session together we will be going through cell structure topic. This will involve looking into the different types of cells and organelles, before looking into using microscopes to study them.
60 mins
This session will go over the cell cycle and the process of mitosis. We will then move onto cell differentiation and stem cells. This will cover the different types of stem cell and the advantages and disadvantages of using each. We will also look at some real world applications of stem cells.
60 mins
This session will go over the three types of transport in cells (diffusion, osmosis and active transport) and examples for where they occur. This topic will also look over required practical 3 (investigating osmosis in plant tissue).
60 mins
In this lesson we will go through the structure and function of organs in the human digestive system. We will also look into enzymes in a little more detail, including their structure, function and roles in digestion. This session will also quickly recap on practical 4 (food tests) and 5 (investigating the effect of pH on enzyme activity).

In this session we will go through the structure of the heart and the different blood vessels: arteries, capillaries and veins. We will then look at the components of the blood in more detail before going through a quick overview of cardiovascular disease and treatments.
60 mins
In this session we will be looking into plant organs, tissues and systems. This will involve looking at the structure of a leaf, before looking into transpiration and translocation involving the xylem and phloem respectively. As this is the last session, I will give a bit of extra time at the end to answer any questions which students may have.
