Are you passionate about writing stories? If so, then this course is for you! In these classes, you will learn how to bring your stories to life on the page, participating in group discussions, interactive activities and individual exercises to help you turn your ideas into truly believable plots.

Class content
Session 1
60 mins
Working with a concept: This first session will teach students how to find inspiration for their stories. They will be taught how to unlock their imaginations and take inspiration from everyday observations. These skills will then be used to build sturdy story foundations, turning flat ideas into exciting, three-dimensional plots.
Session 2
60 mins
Atmospheric settings: In this session, students will learn how to create believable settings. They will be shown how to step inside a story and bring their settings to life using various language techniques. Students will also learn how to create atmospheres by placing themselves in the minds of their readers.
Session 3
60 mins
Three-dimensional characters: The third session will show students how to dive into the minds of their characters. This lesson takes students beyond basic character development, teaching them how to give real depth to their characters. Students will draw upon real-life experiences and will also be able to study extracts from famous books.
Session 4
60 mins
The power of suspense: In this final session, students will learn how to build tension and suspense into their stories. This will involve a deep dive into the inner workings of a story, moving beyond dramatic plot points to learn how tension can be controlled using language, tone, sentence lengths and even punctuation.

What is a small group class?
- A class is a series of live lessons held online with up to 9 other similarly aged students and a single tutor.
- The class will be tailored to the interests and needs of the students.
- Our group classes are all held online in our learning space.
How does it work?
