These sessions will explore how Priestley uses themes and context to highlight the social divide. We will look at how men and women were treated differently and what the characters learn about responsibility.

In the first session, we will look at Britain in 1912 when the play was set, and in what had changed by 1945. Also, we will look at what family life was like during this time.

In the second session, we will compare and contrast the younger and older generations. We will also look at what effect social class had on the characters.

Expanding on the themes of the previous sessions, we will look at men and women and what their roles were in society, and the judgment the Inspector gives.

Finally, what have the characters learned about life and responsibility after the Inspector’s visit?
